Ballarat Municipal Observatory & Museum — Attraction in Mount Pleasant

Very disappointed in Ballarat Observatory organization of events.

Even more disappointed with their managements response to the review a good percentage of it misleading information. A sorry affair indeed!

I have booked for events on two occasions both with a unsatisfactory outcome. First event, 2020 was advertised on the website for the day after the event, I got a phone call asking me if I was attending the session 24 hours prior to the advertised date and time!

Thought I’d try again 2021 with the new COVID normal this year only to get an email saying Ballarat Observatory had provided the wrong information to Trybooking and I would need to pay another $15 to attend the event I had chosen. Emails back and forward then a phone call where I canceled my booking having lost faith in the administration of this organization and received a refund for both events. Apparently I have helped to sort out the mistakes for everyone else, your welcome but I’m not impressed. Check the details with this group...

Historically very interesting, friendly knowledgeable staff, interesting trip around Mars...beautiful old telescopes, especially the Baker, would have loved to have looked through that..but not enough time was allowed to view the heavens through the telescopes outside as the time was taken up by the preamble inside. The sky was clear when we started the second lecture, although interesting, possibly it would have been to everyones advantage to have posponed second lecture for time outside as when we finally got to the telescopes the sky had clouded over, very disappointing!! What a delight! I’d visited Ballarat many times but was unaware of the Observatory; I’m so pleased I saw their brochure in the Tourist Information Centre. I went up to the Observatory and Museum on an 18-stop walking tour through Mt Pleasant, Ballarat’s oldest suburb. Such a warm welcome.
