I was very excited to visit the now opened Bilya Koort Boodja Cultural Centre and it certainly didn’t disappoint.
We were welcomed by the lovely hosts at the centre who gave us a brief outline of the centre and then left us to discover and experience the displays at our own pace.
On entering the display area we were immediately enveloped by a beautiful digital Welcome to Country which used laser lights to create an underwater feeling. It was mesmerising.
The information, art, culture and education displays are beautifully set out and with the help of the digital guided tour speaker we could discover more as required.
At the centre of the displays is a digital gathering circle with three large portrait placed TV’s. The TV’s were placed around the circle almost facing each other and displayed a series of gathering discussions. Each TV displayed one person as part of the joint conversation. These conversations are natural and you feel part of the conversation. My fav was the three younger people having a conversation about their memories of growing up in Northam. It’s a well created personal conversation that provides a great insight to their perspectives.
On leaving our three lovely hosts were again joyous and bubbly. They were so excited to see what we thought as they appear to be so proud of the displays. And proud they should be. It was a heartwarming, informative, educative experience that I would recommend to anyone living in Northam or simply passing through.
Well done on creating such a beautiful experience and also hiring these fantastic ladies to...
