Boxing day every year we went there for our a picnic with another family where we had a great barbecue and scrummy salads. Christmas cake and neenish tart's are two of the desserts I recall. Then we played beach cricket.
Visiting the beach yesterday it looked like it hadn't changed in the last 30 years or 40 years since I'd last been there.
In my mind I can still see the thrilling games of beach cricket being played. From spectacular saves, to awesome bowling with even a few mulligrubbers were seen to wobble the beach wicket. Howzat was frequently heard during the day.
If you're going to go, take the ferry don't drive, there's not enough parking space over at Jibbon beach. People who drive only annoy the people who live there. Driving is so much longer and so much further and so far out of the way, you would be better served to take the Bundeena ferry from Cronulla wharf. If you are interested in aboriginal drawings walk to the other end of the beach, follow the well-worn beach tracks and you will come to some amazing rock carvings from a long time ago. Read moreJibbon beach is a beautiful place, between Bundeena and the Royal National Park. Many tracks to the Royal National Park depart from the North side of Jibbon beach. This is a very quiet place, wild, with pristine water, the perfect entry to the Royal National Park. Worthy to walk to the North side until the rocks and then enjoy the views on the bay and Botany Bay. The entry is not clearly signaled.... Be careful, very limited car park...
