I really regret giving a local business a bad rating, when I really would like to give 5 stars instead. A local business open late for dinners at weekends should be a gem in a remote community. Its unique style suits the village, and Mexican food, as it usually offers plenty vegetarian options. The happy hour price was great! The young gentleman behind the bar who took the orders was very welcoming.
A home brew style drink like ginger beer was the best I ever had! 2 stars, why? I have severe physical disabilities, and I need the support of a Guide/Assistance Dog. He was clearly uniformed with a medal on his collar and his logo on his rain coat. The entrance to the restaurant was blocked by a large dog with a low pitch growl. A woman, who turned out to be the cook of this restaurant defended this behaviour. She did remove him to clear the entrance for us. She seemed to be reluctant though. I showed the gentleman behind the bar my dog’s access rights. Surprisingly he stated that all dogs were welcome on the premises, which surprised me a little. Well, the growling dog had disappeared, therefore all seemed good. I ordered vegetarian Nachos, and settled with a friendly tourist couple in comfortable lounges around a low glass table to dine in. My dog quietly on the ground in my personal space. We got served by the owner of the snarly dog. The tourist couple got their meals served hot in fancy looking baskets, gourmet style presented, while the cook wacked brown paper bag with an ice cold meal inside on my lap. Was that the sign to leave? I asked the cook about the cold meal, the answer was hostile: “Yes, if they are vegetarian!” I hadn’t finished my drink, therefore I picked away at my cold meal. Sour cream and guacamole can be dipped cold. There were a mountain of fresh vegetables, too large to be dipped or picked up with a little take away fork. The cheese sauce was ice cold. How would it make you feel if your table companions get served a spectacular looking hot meal (similar to yours) of tacos with veggies and meat, but you get landed with a meal straight from the fridge in a take away kit? The gentleman (host?) was very friendly as I paid for my meal, wishing me a safe walk home in the rain, which wasn’t very far since I live at the end of the same street in a very quaint if isolated village. Yeah, it could have been 5 stars! Maybe they could put the cook’s reactive dog in a safe place out the back, before he gets a chance to display such behaviour? Very few people can take their dogs to work with them, especially if they work in public kitchens. My dog is fully trained and of course public access tested to not ever display any such behaviours, and there’s may be reason for a cook, who takes her dog to work to have at least some basic canine good citizenship? It’s a sad outcome, but I could get hot vegetarian Nachos at the local CSL Club (walking distance from this establishment), where my Guide/Assistance Dog is a well known & respected local. At the CSLC it is simply out of the question that the chef has a reactive dog on the premises with him/her, or that any other dog which is not public access tested would get admitted to the premises. My dog is not normally hesitant with pet dogs, on the contrary. He is also very comfortable with the only other Guide Dog in town. They travel side by side on the ferry or on the train. But avoiding aggressive dogs is part of his training as he looks after me as well. He does little else than pause at a safe distance, or he gives a doubtful animal a safe wide birth guiding me around it, which is not possible if it blocks the door! So this rating is 5 stars minus 3. Growling dog denying access, hostile cook serving cold take away meal, the blatantly obvious discrimination to the other patrons sharing a meal at the same table! Sorry! I almost have tears in my eyes to write this. But I came home feeling hurt… Just for those kind tourists, - and the gentleman behind the bar, who definitely...
Read moreI don’t know what the food tasted like, however the service was disgusting.
My order (a cheeseburger) didn’t arrive at all, and I waited for over an hour. We came in a big group so it’s understandable that food might take extra time to arrive, and come in batches, but the team screwed up the order, and then claimed that someone else “accidentally ate my burger”. It only got eaten accidentally, because your staff gave it to someone else. After waiting about 30mins, I also enquired about the status of my order, and was told that it’s “on the way” at that time. Everyone else in the group, bar me, got their food in an acceptable amount of time.
The bar attendant while a bit more on the ball, was racist towards my friend - using an Indian accent when collecting his glass, which was completely unwarranted.
Absolutely shameful behaviour from this place, I encourage no...
Read moreWent to order and was firstly ignored, a polite young man then took my order. Understandably they were busy (maybe having one person on the grill and taking orders when you’re busy isn’t such a great idea). I had then waited 25 minutes to ask about my order to which I was told by a very flustered rude young girl that the gas had run out and I should be patient. I politely told her that she should inform customers of this wait. Again met with aggression. She then threw my food on the counter and shooed me away. I told her how rude that was and a staff member off duty started jaunting me.
Let’s all remember one thing, HOSPITALITY.
Extremely inhospitable experience and very rude.
