Located at 40 Punt Road, Gladesville, New South Wales, Australia 🇦🇺 A beautiful park that looks over Looking Glass Bay (where Captain Arthur Phillip first made contact with the local Native Population) in the Parramatta River. Also includes the historic Rockend Cottage. This single story building was built in the 1830’s and in 1866 became the home of Banjo Paterson’s Grandmother (Emily May Barton) who was widowed. Banjo’s birth name was Andrew Barton. Emily was a well read woman and was thought to have heavily influenced Banjo’s love for poetry. The cottage and land that now forms Banjo Paterson Park was sold to Harold Meggitt in 1923 and became part of the Linseed Oil Mill, trading as Halmed. Today, the cottage is a restaurant (Banjo Paterson Cottage Restaurant which is closed at moment but due to be reopening soon). This is a fine dining restaurant, I think it would be more suited for a cafe/kiosk. Big missed business opportunity there. The children’s playground is a wonderful areas for the kids to have fun. It’s recently been upgraded. There are quotes from Banjo’s Poems strategically situated around the playground. The playground includes a Giant Metropolis Tower with a longer twisty slide and a shorter slide, a seesaw, two lots of swings, including a bucket seat for babies which is great. A wooden climbing play gym with a rope net, bridge and cubby house underneath and there’s a rocker. There’s a shade cloth over part of the playground and there’s also natural shade. There’s also picnic areas complete with picnic tables and BBQ facilities. The walking path along the bay is wonderful as it’s very easy and level. Very wheelchair accessible. The views over the bay are beautiful, especially on a clear day. There’s a great chance you might come across a bush turkey while visiting the park. There are gazebo’s in the park and apparently you can rent them for private functions. The park is also a dog 🐶 friendly park. There’s water stations with a dog bowl. The toilet facilities are pretty good, they include disabled toilets also. Car 🚗 parking 🅿️ is readily available around the park including a wheelchair accessible car park and a wheelchair accessible entrance. There’s some beautiful houses around the park to look at and appreciate while you are there. The paths located around the park are suitable for bikes and scooters 🛴. It’s definitely worth going down to the wharf to have a look, it’s nice to just sit and enjoy and it’s also quite popular as a fishing 🎣 spot. Definitely worth a visit and I can’t wait to return. Thumbs Up...
Read moreGreat children's playground with wonderful sandstone surrounds. Dog friendly with water views; historical markers along to Bedlam Bay, as well as indigenous markers just outside the park, near Banjo Pattison's Cottage. Gas BBQs & clean toilets (with toilet paper); covered shelters; large areas for 2 friendly cricket games to be played; concrete path from Punt Rd thro' the Park to either Amiens Street (named after the WW1 French town) or Ashburn Place. Well worth a visit. Popular with mums early in the day before bub's...
Read moreThis is a nice quiet little park, surrounded by lots of leafy native trees.
There is some great play equipment for children that caters to most ages. The large slide is quite high up and so perhaps not suitable for younger children, although there is plenty of equipment for them to play on also.
There are some sheltered areas for entertaining and would work well for birthday parties etc. There are two BBQs which are usually clean and functional. There is also a filtered water station with bubbler. There are toilet facilities which are clean.
The park has some walking paths that lead down to the water's edge and a...
