Great spot to rest under shade and restroom break while using the miriad walking and cycling paths in the area. Also interesting historical spot with arms bunkers and WW11 buildings and structures. Free. Connects thru to the end of the Louise Sauvage pathway along the river plus the middle of the Sauvage pathway by heading straight thru the Armory grounds. Plentiful car parking nearby (good paths for wheels like prams and wheel chairs bit on a bit of a hill, so may be a struggle). Excellent kids playground at the top of the nearby hill on the west side, suitable for 4 -13 aged kids. Also cafe/diner nearby with intermittent opening. The gates say this closes, but that must be while the sun is down cos i come here multiple times a week/weekend/public holidays and Ive never seen gates shut. Just steer clear of night hours and...

If you enjoy history, old architecture, and a peaceful walk by the river, Newington Armory is definitely...
Read moreProbably should be 3.5 stars. My wife and I don't drink coffee, but are both Chai Latte lovers, and the chai latte here is really good. However, overall I think they still have to work on getting things together, maybe on this day they were a little short staffed in service as well. Ordered Muesli which came at same time as hot meals, so the hot meals went cold while eating the muesli. They were quite busy and the mains took a while, so could have made the muesli quick and bought it early - just attention to detail. The muesli was OK but expensive and I have had better. The mains were tasty and priced OK. The staff were generally very friendly but could be more efficient. The corn fritters with halloumi is absolutely delicious and recommended. And of course the locations is nice...
