Torquay Back Beach, also known as the Surf Beach, is accessible from two car parks, the main one on the left and smaller one next to the river. If wanting sustenance or a caffeine hit pre/post surfing/exercising, be sure to visit the Third Wave Kiosk in the central car park.
This beach is the perfect place to learn to surf, with surf schools operating in the area. You may also be interested in the Suring Museum located nearby. Torquay Surf Life Saving Club patrols the front and back beaches, and their headquarters are at this beach.
For those wanting to stay close by, the Torquay Foreshore Caravan Park is the most immediate accommodation and very popular with travellers. There are plenty of hotels and other accommodation, which can get pricey in the warmer months.
Spring Creek River next to the smaller car park, connects with the Surf Coast Walking Paths and you may even see some people fishing here. You can walk to the Rocky Point Lookout [replaced in 2015] or around the cliff base, from the back beach when it is low tide.
There is a timeshare system for those with dogs - check the signs to be safe and know where and when dogs can roam free or on a leash. There are poo bag dispensers around most beaches, but to be safe, bring your own to clean up after your dog.
