We waited in the queue around 15 minutes because we went there on a nice sunny Sunday. Probably you won't wait that much during the week. I think you need to allocate between 3-4 hours, or maybe even 5 (if you want to read all the little details carefully) 🙂 What I like about the zoo is that there has been both German and English names of the animals but explainations were mostly in German. There's also a restaurant but it's self-service. The good thing is you can pay with the credit card 💳 We ate cheeseburger 🍔 and Käsespätzle and both were nice. Moreover, the view of the restaurant is amazing. That's why, you should definitely eat outside! It was such a shame that we couldn't see bears, some wild cats and a couple more of the most interesting animals 😪 And one of the things what I don't like is that you need to pay extra if you want to get a map of the zoo. It's just insane! It's the first zoo I've encountered for me to pay for it 🙈🙊 Normally, they just give it to you for free in the entrance along with your entry ticket. In addition, I need to say that it's more like a family destination and it's very likely to hear crying kids so often around:) and the thing is it's kind of hard of parents to go there especially with babies because the path you follow is kind of steep and would be demanding with a stroll in my opinion. Other than that, it's a nice activity when you're bored in the city and want to do something different. However, you can do other nicer stuff if you're in Innsbruck only for a few days.

Alpenzoo Innsbruck offers a unique and captivating experience, earning it a solid four-star rating. The zoo's distinctive focus on alpine wildlife is commendable, providing visitors with the opportunity to encounter animals native to the region. The enclosures are well-maintained, and the zookeepers seem dedicated to the animals' well-being. However, the layout of the zoo involves navigating several uphill and downhill paths, which may pose a challenge for some visitors. While this design adds to the natural feel of the environment, it could be a drawback for those who prefer a more level terrain. Despite the walking challenges, the scenic views of Innsbruck and the surrounding mountains from within the zoo are breathtaking. The educational aspects of the exhibits are informative and engaging, making it an excellent destination for families or anyone interested in alpine fauna. In summary, Alpenzoo Innsbruck offers an enriching experience, though the hilly terrain may not be ideal for everyone. If you're willing to tackle the inclines, the zoo's unique focus and picturesque setting make it a worthwhile visit, earning it a solid four-star rating.

We came by since entry to the zoo and the funicular was covered by the Innsbruck Pass. We headed up the mountain first and stopped by the zoo on the way back. We did end up bussing back to Innsbruck since we weren't sure we'd be able to get back on the funicular. The pass covered the ride though. The ladies up front were really helpful in getting us through with the pass. There is a souvenir shop as soon as you enter. The exit is in the building across the path so you won't pass it again unless you go back into the entrance building. With the map we navigated our way across the zoo. There were quite a few interesting things to see like the bears but the bird enclosures were also quite interesting. Finally managed to see a woodpecker do its thing which was cool. I really like the aviaries since you could go through most of them. There were a few bits which were closed like the playground by the bear enclosure and the enclosure with the vultures so we had to backtrack rather than go through which was a bit annoying. It was quite an interesting zoo and the views were really nice since you were quite high up. Worth a stop if you get the pass.

The Zoo is overrated, and was a let down. There are ample parking facilities, but take the first one... If the upper ones are full, it's tough to get back down. We waited in the hot sun in queue to buy tickets - it would have been nice to have a covered shelter there. The signs guiding one around the zoo were faded, and confusing. Some areas of the zoo were closed for repairs, and some animals like the wolves and bears were missing. Yes, it's common to have animals hiding sometimes, but having exhibits open with no animals in them is disappointing. The exhibit with vultures and other raptors, though, was awe inspiring, and the aquarium was fascinating. There are many play areas for small kids, and information booths for the others. My son tried the Spaghetti Bolognese at the Cafe and gave up after a few bites. Couldn't blame him - it tastes like boiled cardboard. In summary, the zoo has its highs and lows, but unfortunately, the lows predominate. I would recommend that the zoo lower the price of admission until they fix up the place. At the moment, it's not worth the price.

The animals are housed in small enclosures with lots of vegetation. They have good keepers, keeping up their wellbeing. I didn't see much enrichment but the habitats are rich. The variety is good. Some of the smaller birds were stressed with visitors and the larger avian species were quite content with visitors. There are nice water features in most of the terrestrial exhibits. Overall it was good if you like zoos. The aquarium at the end was a nice feature of a wide variety of aquatic animals. It was well maintained and the animals seemed happy for the most part. No pacing and the larger mammals seemed content. The infrastructure was in decent shape and there was some interactive exhibits. I was alone and don't read German, so I can only speak to the images , colour and layout of the signage. I'd recommend it if you're in town for a visit. BUT... The combo ticket with the tram up the hill (Nordketten) does not allow you to get off to see the zoo and get back on. You can get on the tram 2x, not the 3 needed to return to the base. The 1.5km walk isn't so bad...

Great place to see and understand a little more about alpine animals (coming from a tropical country that sees more tigers, orang-utans etc.)! As mentioned in other reviews, some animals are hibernating because it’s winter (didn’t get to see the wolf), but still a nice place to see other animals with great view of Innsbruck (felt like the view was so good that it isn’t that necessary to go all the way up Nordkette, and also having been to Dachstein near Hallstatt). Note that the explanations in the zoo are not available in English so I had to use Google Translate app most of the time. You can take the furnicular train directly to the zoo (do stop at the stop before the final station). I made a mistake and stopped at the final station, but it turned out to be a pretty nice hike down to the zoo with great views about 20-30mins (do note there are slopes). The bistro at the zoo also has great view so it was nice to have lunch and coffee for a short break admiring the view. Overall, spent about 3 hours there including chilling at the bistro!
