Klimt Villa From 1911 until his death in 1918, Gustav Klimt used a villa in Vienna's 13th district as his studio. This was revitalised and made accessible to the public again.
Klimt used the garden house, originally built without a first floor, as a studio or workshop during his last creative period. On the ground floor, the studio is faithfully recreated on the basis of contemporary descriptions and illustrations. The aim is to make the living and working situation tangible in terms of atmosphere and content.
This will be done by reconstructing the furnishings of the "reception room" and the "studio" on the basis of photos by Moritz Nähr and existing original samples of objects (e.g. carpet). In the other rooms of the studio, information is provided about models and "clients" who were important for Klimt's works of this creative period.
The 6,000 m² garden is an oasis of peace, and the architecture of the house is particularly exciting: for in the 1920s the original studio was "built over" with a picturesque villa. Klimt's studio has thus been...
Read moreIt was such a wonderful experience to be able to see Gustav Klimt famous painting “The Kiss” at the Belvedere Palace. And of course I needed to visit his villa too.
Unfortunately my time at Vienna was very limited as I come there only for a weekend to pick up my new puppy Dixi from an Austrian breeder. So Dixi and I was able to only visit the villas garden and the shop as we needed to head back to the airport.
I need to return to Vienna to spend more time to experience the beauty of this sophisticated city.
However the espresso cup is with me every morning so I can enjoy my morning coffee with Klimt.
Ah, and the Rose Perfume from Klimt’s garden is a must have. As an aromatherapist I can tell you that it is a very high standard of a natural rose perfume as if you are in Klimt’s garden. And the perfumes are very potent so only one small pump in the morning with set you in the Klimt artistic mood...
Read moreThe worst ‘art museum’ I have ever been to. I was absolutely shocked and appalled. There are only a few original paintings in the whole Klimt villa and they are about 20cm each. Even then I’m unsure if they are originals. Everything else is all prints. The only selling point they tell you when you arrive is that his original work studio is still intact there. However, you quickly realise that the whole villa was built around his studio, meaning you cannot appreciate it as it was. Only as a bastardised idea of what it could have been. That’s not the worst part either. If you fancy buying one of these prints, some are up to €2000. Do not waste your money here, you can print off some pictures of his paintings and look at them at home for free. Take your money to the Otto Wagner Villa if you want to see some real impressive paintings, it’s not too far from...
