Been going to Ayr races for over 30 years and although it's generally poorly organised this year was by far the worst experience, we went to enter and told it was the grandstand to go to so our mistake, we were told to go to the sign that said grandstand and pointed to where that was and queued there. As we were queuing we noticed a lot of people being sent away and thought they must have been in the wrong queue so continued to queue. After about 10 minutes queuing the guy scanned our ticket and said this is not the right place even although above his head it said grandstand and we were ushered towards what I would call waste ground at the side of tescos (nothing grand about that). We managed to get a seat and near the bar and food and underneath a massive TV I thought this will be a great spot to get great atmosphere for the races. Now the worst part of the day the toilets were filthy and queue was 40 minutes and there was absolutely NO commentary for the whole day, the TV was on silent until 3pm when they turned it up for a race at NEWBURY then turned sound off again, there were no speakers anywhere at that whole area the whole day so noone even knew when the races were starting and absolutely ZERO ATMOSPHERE I could here people say after a few minutes into the race 'oh that race is away'. Shocking to expect people to pay money to be shunted into what I would say was practically tesco car park and left without any experience of the race day. No doubt this will land on deaf ears as it will sell out again next year and as long as your taking in the money you...
Read moreVisited today for the first time for the Ayr Gold Cup. Firstly you needed physic powers to find the car park as it looked like you were driving into Mackie D's ( Macdonalds).
£27 or £49 for entry - plus you had to buy a £3 race card on top of £49! - after visiting much more prestigious courses than this which included the race card I thought this was cheapskate!.
The lack of seating amazed me - and most of what was there looked like it needed replacing - in fact one gentleman's chair was so brittle it snapped!
The food choice was dire - burgers burgers or burgers and cheesy chips (£5) Toilets facilities inadequate and after 5 hours of The Beatles I was well and truly ready for home.
I have visited many a racecourse and I am afraid to say that the indoor facilities at Ayr are in need of upgrading to justify £27! - had the weather not been kind - I dread to think how it would of coped!.
Poor tannoy system in the cheap end (£27) and lack of tea/ coffee facilities - fine if you are drinking. Unable to take a picnic so forced to buy burgers and chips!
Very very disapointed - only worth £18 entry fee of...
Read moreMy friends disabled son had attended Ayr racecourse on Saturday for the grand national, everything was organized beforehand with the manager as arrangements had to be made due to disability needs. Everything was specified before booking however when he arrived with his 2 carers it was not wheelchair friendly and they could not gain access, the lift was broken! The wheelchair wouldn't even fit on the ramp. My friends son had to leave and go home, it was his first time at the racing and it was a massive failure on the company's behalf. One of the managers actually said to him he should have came earlier. There is only 4 disabled car parking spaces which is nowhere near the entrance. Going to be going to the papers with this, a disabled young adult attends an event that is specified as wheelchair friendly and could not even get in, no one could help them. Waste of money, wasn't even offered a refund. Shocking...
