As I've found it quite difficult to make out the actual options for the trail from online reviews or vlogs, here is a somewhat more detailed explanation that, hopefully, might come in handy for other travellers: For Google Maps put in "Trailhead to the Love Swing" (there's one trailhead at the Veliko Tarnovo city sign and one at the Arbanasi city sign). If you put in "Love Swing", it will lead you to the spot on the driving road underneath the actual place (which is high, on the cliffs), so that's not helpful 😆 1- If you come from Veliko Tarnovo (on foot), after passing the bridge over Yantra, Google Maps will suggest you walk on the side of the driving road, but you can also go through the small village underneath that road- it's safer and you exit directly at the intersection where Veliko Tarnovo ends, right next to a church. That's where the trail begins (behind a huge gas station sign there will be a wooden sign). For the most part, the two trail options (red and yellow) are both combined. The hike is quite steep, but with good shoes, patience and an ok physical condition, you will make it up. Maybe also consider a trekking stick or a solid branch, as the surface can be dry and not that stable. At one point, the two trails separate. The red one goes through the forest, the yellow one is more exposed, on the side of the cliff, but shorter. After stopping at the Love Swing, you can continue the yellow trail and it will lead you on a really easy descent down on the other side to the sign of Arbanasi. You have the chance to catch some spectacular views of the cliffs from there. This route took me a little over an hour from start to finish. If you then want to return to Veliko Tarnovo, you will have to carefully walk on the side of the driving road, though.
2- If you come from Arbanasi (park your car there or go on foot), you will take the yellow marked path, that leads you on a really pleasant path through the forest. At one point, the path separates. The path on the right continues through the forest and is easy and safe, the path on the left offers you some spectacular views, but is really exposed, on the edge of the cliff- I would only recommend that one if the weather is safe and you have hiking shoes with good grip. Then, from the Love Swing, either return or go on the red trail through the forest down and end the trail at the entrance sign to Veliko Tarnovo.
Just mentioning that I was lucky enough to have great weather. During rain or wet terrain, the hike from Veliko Tarnovo might become...
Read moreFrom the main road, you will see a trail entrance (with a board showing the hiking trails around this area) from Tarnovo to Arbanasi. From the entrance, you start to hike up and it takes only 15 minutes to the swing. The trail is almost covered by trees. As it is a hiking trail, a hiking shoe is recommended. But if you are a frequent hiker, it is very easy for you. The main concern is there are lots of spiders 😅in which you have to get a...
Read moreI loved it and took the path from Veliko Tarnovo that was very well hidden behind the sign. Thankfully there are google maps reviews. The path is very, very steep but not that long. It begins right behind the blue sign. It goes very straight up until you get to see it to your right. Be careful not to slip. Also, following the path after the swing you can get to Arbanasi, if you're interested. No shadow along the way, but a nice...
