My wife and I didn't stay in the River Cree Resort and Casino so I cannot review the rooms or service to that affect. We made our way to the Casino to eat at the Tap 25 Sports Bar for their Sunday afternoon %50 off a couple of Sundays ago.
It was busy. There were a lot of folks taking advantage of the afternoon special which included food and non-alcoholic drinks. To our surprise we were promptly seated at our choice of either a table with high seats near the hockey rink section or a regular table near the outer wall which was close to the slot machines. Either choice presented a delightful view of the televisions playing football and hockey.
Our order was taken very quickly and brought out efficiently. Now, I usually don't complain much about my food, I'm not very picky. When it comes to being in the River Cree Resort and Casino I would expect their fried bread to be top notch...it wasn't. Granted Krystin makes the best fried bread in the world, thus am spoiled when it comes to quality and taste, the fried bread we were served was not great. Even at half price we were disappointed in the amount, quality, and tasted. It appeared that the dough was fried in oil not quite hot enough as it was soaked in oil. I feel bad that we didn't say anything when asked about our meals, but I find it difficult to complain...except I guess to Krystin.
Our mains came out next. Krystn ordered the chicken wings with honey garlic sauce and i ordered the liver and onions. Now before you judge me on the choice I made let me explain. I grew up eating liver and onions once and awhile...they have a special place in my heart and I do enjoy eating them once and awhile. The chicken wings were crispy, tasty and what you want out of a chicken wing, no complaints whatsoever. My liver and onions were ok. They came with mashed potatoes and various boiled vegetables. The liver was tender topped with an obviouse from the pouch gravy. The potatos were fluffy, tasty and buttery. The vegetables were frozen and over boiled. Overall, I'd probably give my liver and onions meal a five out of 10. In one past visit I ordered the meat lovers pizza and enjoyed it a lot. I would not order the liver and onions again, for that matter I'd personally stay away from any of the food that isn't "sports bar food".
Yes, I get it. I went to a sports bar and figured out that anything not typically found in a sports bar is sub par quality...sometimes you just have to figure that out personally.
With all of that said, I will be back with Krystin and or friends. I will order deep fried wings, onion rings, and the like. The pizza i had was very decent, especially if you go during the %50 time on Sunday.
I will mention one other point. My wife and I have attended the River Cree and Resort Oilers Stanley Cup watch party last season. For $25 each we got two seats at a table in one of the banquet rooms where we found three large screens. We got to sit with a few other random people to watch the Oilers take on almost winning the Stanley Cup. We were privy to a large buffet that included fresh vegetables and salads, fries, onion rings, roast beef, buns, and other pub/sports bar food. Later in the game deserts were served which were of the expected fare of lemon squares, small cheesecake squares, tiny cupcakes...you get the idea.
We always have a great time packed in a room full of mostly Oiler fans. What was an unexpected delight was they have a raffle throughout the game, mostly done during intermissions and commercial breaks. Everything from Oiler jerseys, to Yeti mugs and cups, to gift certificates to the casino. They raffled off more items that I could even imagine!
Overall our experience at the River Cree Resort and Casino was very positive. The staff were pleasant and ensured we had a great time.

Read moreUPDATE ** Made reservations for me, my husband, my son in a wheelchair and his Caregiver for Christmas Day. We arrived on time for our reservation, but there was a sizable lineup including another very long line for individuals without reservations. By the time we were shown to our table, people had already lined up for the buffet and that wound all the way back to the entrance doors. We decided to sit down and wait until the line became somewhat shorter. This was not to be the case because first off more people kept continually coming in and they were immediately joining the line. Secondly, individuals who had since finished their first course were now getting in line for the second time. There was no way with a wheelchair that we could have maneuvered along the line of people and between all the tables. So we patiently waited until it looked like there was going to be a lull. That was an hour after arriving there and being seated. Thank goodness for the small table unit of crab legs in the middle of the room that nobody else seemed to be paying any attention to. We at least had a healthy appetizer of crab meat to fill our stomachs with and keep us going until we could get our main course. I must say the crab legs were great. Finally it was our turn to get our food from the buffet. Their selection was fair, but nothing to write home about. Most say that what I had was tasty and the mashed potatoes were the best I have ever had while eating out. Would go back there just for them. The dessert selection was delicious too. It was a bit pricey considering we were being rushed out before we even had time to finish our food. The other positive note I would have to make is that our server was very pleasant and excellent at her job. She was absolutely wonderful. The hotel really needs to work on a better system for handling the amount of people/crowds that they are expecting. .................
Took mini vacation there even though I live in Edmonton. Had a great time. Room service was good especially the sticky...
Read moreHello. I attended an amazing concert with some friends at the River Cree last night. My friend and I had a great time in the VIP pit, while my girlfriend and our friend sat a few rows back in the 'D' section (still great view). During the concert (65% capacity) an older lady may have reported to a security person that my gf and her friend were chatting during the concert during a break.||When we left the concert, my friend and I were waiting for our sig others at the venue entrance attached to the casino. I noted security was on multiple sides of the exit, as if a sting was occurring. My gf and her aunt exited the venue into the casino and were descended upon by 2 security team members. My gf was a 5'3" young lady, 24 years of age, walking and chatting amicably with her aunt. I've worked security in the past, so was surprised when she was cornered and asked "how much have you had to drink?". Before she finished saying "I don't know..." she was pushed towards the exit (she had 1 at dinner, then 3 more over 5 hours when gambling and during the show for a total of 4 total over 6 hours, but they didn't learn that from asking). She was in the process of thinking, and surprised all of us as there was zero time to converse with the security personnel. All of us moved to the exit as the security team refused to acknowledge my existence until the exit, where a gentleman finally said it was due to intoxication. We were confused and flabbergasted. I feel this was targeted after the 'chatting' complaint but she had enjoyed less than 50% of drinks of what the people at the concert had imbibed and there was no warning from security that it was a problem. Admittedly she was chatting with a friend during the concert early on, but not during the 2nd 1/2 of the concert.||Am I wrong in thinking she should have been issued a verbal warning if disruptive during the concert? I popped back from my seat earlier in the concert and everything seemed fine. My assessment was that jumping straight to ejection was...
