Updated review:
I asked the bakery clerk for egg tarts. She took the ones on the tray at the back and not the ones at the front on the heater. When we got home, we realized those egg tarts looked different and they did not taste like regular egg tarts. We were shocked. Does that mean they used the regular ones at the front to attract customers but they actually give other products to customers? I threw them away because they were not egg tarts. They were deceiving customers.
Also, when I asked the bakery clerk for the curry chicken pocket and the bbq pork pineapple bun, she put them into the paper bag but she did not give them to me after she gave us those 'egg tarts'. So we needed to go back and asked for them again. The employees at the bakery department were not friendly at all. There were three of them but all of them were facing the wall at the back. There should be one by the counter to serve.
For the food, the curry chicken pocket did not have actual chicken and the spice was minimal; there were just bits of burnt chicken floss inside with a lot of air. The bbq pork in the pineapple bun was mostly chunks of fat and they did not taste like or resemble the regular bbq pork (they looked dark).
We would not return to their bakery department.
Response to owner:
The ingredients on the box had "Meat paste (ground pork)" and it was actually pork floss inside. It is not about the cooking method (marinated and baked); the point is these are two different food. This is not about taste preference; the info. on the box was wrong and misleading.
Original review:
The lid of the Mung Bean Pastry w/ Pork was loose in the package. So the pastry sheets, which were already broken into pieces, fell off from the package in the container when I opened the package. They created a mess for customers by not securing the lid properly.
They had "Meat paste (ground pork)" in the ingredients but they actually had pork floss in the pastry. Also, the pork floss, which was minimal in the pastry with mostly mung bean, was unusually sweet, hard, and dry which was very difficult to chew - they were definitely unsuitable for seniors. They should indicated "Pork floss" instead of "Meat paste (ground pork)" in the ingredients because they are different. They were misleading customers.
P.S. The employee by the self check-out area told us to go to a dirty self check-out station before cleaning it for customers. This happened at every T&T location. The customers should not need to tell them to clean it. They should check each station after it is used to ensure cleanliness before instructing the next...

Read moreEdit: This was meant for the new Kingsway location at Nanaimo St (not Metrotown). Awesome that they have a Kingsway location but unfortunately it is really cramped compared to the Metrotown location. The aisles are much narrower, and can just fit 2 average sized people side by side. So if someone is looking at an item, it is tight to squeeze by, and it's really annoying with the rolling shopping baskets. Really surprised by the narrow aisles as it is a big chain (usually only see this in family owned groceries). Even outside of the aisles it's much smaller and there isn't much walking space compared to other locations. To be honest the layout / size seems like a bad design as if they didn't have enough space to fit T&T but wanted to make one there anyway and cram it all in.
The bakery section is currently very lacking compared to the other locations. It's missing the sandwiches, and a lot of the Chinese bakery items. So if you are looking to buy baked goods like pineapple bun, bean paste/meat filled buns, etc. you'll have to go to another place for now. Hopefully they will add more to their bakery soon.
Lastly, there is actually a self-serve checkout. Attendants are really attentive and helpful, but seems like they don't like to let you punch in/weigh the grocery? Whenever I held a grocery item in my hand (e.g. bananas), the attendant just rushed over to do it even though I didn't do anything yet. Also the button to enter in the grocery code is right in the middle of the screen but they blank out the name. Not sure why this is. Maybe because self-serve is new at T&T and they're afraid of people punching in the code? I don't know, but it's odd considering every other major grocery store has the buttons for punching in grocery obviously shown, and customers do it themselves. Also, as I mentioned with the small space, there is no designated area for self-serve line-ups, as if they forgot to include the area into their building plan. So if it's super busy, the self-serve check out queue extends into one of the very narrow aisles.
Overall it's convenient to have a T&T here, but some things could be (and could have been) improved to be more in line with the...
