STAY AWAY! I can't believe how commercialized this village is. It's only the shell of a heritage village with overpriced tourist shops and food joints. This village is most definitely *NOT the best place to eat! We went around 4pm and most food places had closed (it appeared as though some just didn't have the staff to be there?) So we ate at one of the only places open - Moo Moo BBQ and my husband got food poisoning from the turkey choice he ordered :( My beef order was definitely not great and I'm really surprised b/c of the reviews we had read previously about this place! Can I say that my heart is broken by the fact that all of the historical buildings are converted into a fake *gimicky tourist spot. The old church is converted into a restaurant (gasp) and other than plaques about the buildings and a few Anne memorabilia (yes her Raspberry Cordial).. nothing represented the era and the time it was created for here. I feel this village was very distastefully re-done. While the buildings are beautiful on the outside - I came imagining something quite different :(. Sadly this village also seemed really mismanaged and understaffed. I know covid has done a lot but if they don't recreate the traditional authentic Avonlea feel, I fear all is lost. Please rename this place PEI Funtown instead of ruining the Avonlea heritiage of this village. I am shocked as to how the Government of PEI let this happen?! I'd give this 0 stars if I could. If they had movie re-enactments, stories of the old village's history and giving true authentic purposes for each of the buildings it would have been much more rewarding. The only great thing about this trip was buying some overpriced...
Read moreThis place should really consider changing the name from Avonlea Village to something else without Avonlea in it. For those who visited Avonlea when it first opened years ago, you will be disappointed as It is no longer the charming, welcoming era of the story of Anne of Green Gables with Anne, Gilbert and Diana wandering free and interacting with guests on the grounds. Gone are the costumes, the characters, the skits, the music, the once beautiful gardens, with the majority of the trees now cut down. Gone are all things Anne, except a souvenir type shop on the premises that you can find anywhere on the Island. This place is now a mix of uninspired shopping and over priced food offerings not affordable for families. It's a take off of the Cavendish Boardwalk just down the road. If you plan on going to Avonlea in Cavendish and expect to see a replica of Avonlea and Anne of Green Gables from previous years, it no longer exists at this location! On a positive note, in 2015, there was entertainment in the evening at this location, featuring Island talent, with an admission fee per person, so I am assuming that will be offered during July and...
Read moreAfter visiting Avonlea Village this past June 2016, I felt that the atmosphere was terrible; it felt like a ghost town. Before, there was excitement from the moment you walked through the door with the actors all in character, which was fantastic. Having the opportunity to dress up in antique clothing and getting pictures taken was a lot of fun. The carriage ride, along with the little petting zoo was great. The entertainment the musicians provided all day was very enjoyable, it really lifted the spirits of those who entered the village. At the end of the day, getting the chance to interact with the actors and play the fair games with them was a blast for the young as well as the old. I feel that when a person goes on vacation, a person plans to spend some money. Maybe the problem came down to not having the proper advertising, and people were not informed or aware of everything that came with the entrance cost. At the end of the day, I feel that P.E.I. has lost a great attraction and experience while visiting the island on...
