A defining landmark of Edmonton, the High Level Bridge spans the North Saskatchewan River, connecting downtown with Old Strathcona. Completed in 1913, this historic steel-truss bridge was originally designed for trains, streetcars, vehicles, and pedestrians, making it one of the most versatile crossings of its time. Today, it remains a vital link, offering stunning river valley views for walkers and cyclists. At night, the bridge comes to life with colorful LED lights, creating a striking visual display that celebrates city events and holidays. A symbol of Edmonton’s history and engineering, the High Level Bridge remains an iconic part of the...

The High Level Bridge is 3/4 of a km long but seems twice as long, especially if you're biking and the winds are strong! The view of the North Saskatchewan River is wonderful and Edmonton has some of the best sunsets I've ever seen! It would have been better if the city had made the bike lanes one way on either side of the road, but.... The bridge is very narrow and has two lanes, but it curves on both sides so it can be tricky. Busses drive down the middle because it's so narrow. Great landmark and a big piece of...

Iconic bridge over the North Saskatchewan River from downtown to south side. It’s over 100 years old and has become even more entrenched in the minds of Edmontonians and is part of everyone’s minds eyes of the river valley. There is car traffic and a trolley that goes over the bridge where trains used to. Both sides of the bridge have pedestrian and bicycle traffic. This is just an amazing bridge and I would recommend not only driving across it but also walking and taking the...

High Level Bridge is one of Edmonton's oldest infrastructure. Built in 1913, I think that it commands an excellent view of the River Valley, especially of Downtown Edmonton and the University of Alberta campus. Both its roadway and sidewalk are narrower than the Walterdale bridge, which is made even narrower by the suicide barrier. Nevertheless, the bridge remains very functional and the walk across it is very scenic but a bit noisy due to the often heavy vehicular traffic.
