Our time at the Fort McMurray Heritage Village was truly special. It was a visit we will always hold dear, filled with moments that touched our hearts. The staff were incredibly friendly and went above and beyond to make our experience memorable.

The Heritage Village is a heartfelt tribute to the rich tapestry of the region’s history, making it an exceptional place for history enthusiasts and families looking to share meaningful experiences. Spanning over 6.6 acres, this lovely site features seventeen lovingly preserved historic buildings, each revealing its own unique story about the lives of early residents. As you stroll through the village, you'll discover artifacts and exhibits that beautifully illustrate the area's journey from a humble fur trading post to a vibrant community.

The self-guided tours provide an excellent chance to explore at your own pace, allowing you to truly connect with the compelling stories of local history through engaging displays. And don’t forget to visit the on-site gift shop—a heartfelt space where you can find locally made products, books, and cherished souvenirs, perfect for bringing a piece of this rich history home with you.

Open year-round, the Heritage Village welcomes visitors every day from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Whether you're a local or travelling from afar, this beautiful haven offers an enriching experience that celebrates the complexities of the region’s past. It invites everyone to reflect on and appreciate the shared history that...

Heritage Village was absolutely stunning, a true labour of love. The buildings were beautifully preserved, as were the contents and the Village circles a central performance space which was utilised by musicians and DJ's for Canada Day festivities on our visit.

Each building had a designated theme and detailed who lived there. There was a rich abundance of clothing, furniture, weapons, tools, and household items from hundreds of years ago. The bank was a particularly interesting building with historic equipment and price lists for commonly used items of the day.

There was a good balance of interactive and written displays. The language was succinct and to the point.

I mostly enjoyed the wonderful stories of the buildings' inhabitants encapsulated with the utmost respect and honour in the displays. The everyday people, the heroines fighting for land rights, the very first traders risking their lives for the development of the area. Each individual is crucial to the rising and longevity of a new world. It brought the buildings to life in a much more meaningful way.

The gift shop had beautiful, hand crafted, locally sourced items. It certainly wasn't cheap by a long shot, but there were some lower priced items to suit everyone's budgets. There was ample parking too.

I would strongly recommend this place to adults visiting alone or to families with kids. I really feel they hit that balance perfectly in offering something for everyone. I shall definitely...

Heritage Village in Fort McMurray

Time : 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Tue~Sat) Admission Fee : 13.50 + Tax (Adult) : 14.20 Time Spending Exploring : about an hour (I only skimmed through about 80%, so it felt light. If I had a lot of time, I would take around almost 2 hrs.)

First, enter the shop labeled "Gift Shop", pay the admission fee, and I could go through another door to go in the village. I could see a beautiful recreated Fort McMurray from the 1900s. There are various cabins, each with a different purpose, and I could go inside all of them to browse the items on display. I still remember the smell of the wood inside. If you take your time to explore and chat with people along the way, you will have an...
