I appreciate the need for leash-free zones, but dog owners need to be careful about following rules outside the park. I'm a resident in the nearby area and don't have much knowledge/experience regarding dogs. At one point, I was walking in the nearby Red Brush Park, which is well outside the dog park and definitely not a leash-free zone. But someone had kept their dog leash-free there and this was a large dog, immediately started running after me, I was scared for my life but I climbed on something at the last moment. The owner was elderly and had no control of the dog. And this is on an icy day in the winter, I could've slipped and it would've been a disaster.
I now understand that it's unwise to run from a dog, but I didn't know that before - not everyone's familiar with dogs.
On another occasion, my mom was walking around the lake well outside the dog free park, two large dogs surrounded her and she could do nothing but stand still till they left after a nerve-wracking 5-10 minutes - the owner was nowhere to be seen.
This is a beautiful area to walk around but I no longer feel safe because dog owners, especially for big dogs, are removing the leashes well before they enter the dog park!
I see reviews complaining about how inside the park, the big dogs have sometimes caused severe injuries to small dogs. It's not too much of a stretch to imagine young kids from the neighborhood walking outside the dog park and being attacked by dogs if they don't...
Read moreThis used to be my favourite park in 2022- beginning 2023 since all dog owners were very responsible of thier dogs.
In 2024 I have been to this park only 2 times. The first time an UGLY dog fight happened (we left and were not involved) The second time (today) a young doberman (act like a puppy) attacked my dog.
At first doberman took our ball which I don’t mind, owner retrieves it from the dog and gives it back to me. As he gives me back our ball his Doberman barked, nipped and chased my dog. Owner (average height, Asian, male, wearing black jacket) didn’t do anything. I screamed NO and tried to get in between the Doberman and my dog and was able grabbed my dog by the traffic handle. I walked him on a picnic table to examine him. Friendly and responsible dog owners came to check and see if my dog was okay (which he was). One owner told me my dog was the second one of that dobermans victims for that day. As I looked around the park, Doberman and his owner LEFT. The way he would just LEAVE after his dog was aggressive and clearly nipped my dog, letting out multiple yelps and wails of fear just shows the type of owner he is.
An Irresponsible coward.
So be warned, there are plenty of responsible dog owners in the neighbourhood. But there are idiots too.
Won’t be back to dog parks, especially this one,...
Read moreIt’s a great park overall, however, some owners are very irresponsible. There have been multiple times where aggressive dogs have gone after my young lab, who is in no way aggressive. There was once a pittbull there, who was friendly, I actually knew the owner as he’s someone in my family. The dog was playing with other dogs without problem. Until a Rottweiler came in. My dog ran down to the gate to greet the dog and the rotti jumped and pinned my dog to the ground. My dog submitted without a problem. But then the pittbull came down to see what’s going on and a dog fight took place. Both owners of the dogs were bitten. The rottis owner blamed the pittbull‘s owner, and refused to leave, where as the pittbull and his owner left immediately after exchanging information. This is just a warning to bring your dog here at your own risk. Not everyone knows how to...
