This spot is a hidden gem and the hike can take on any difficulty that you want it to. I will caution that in order to start, you have to traverse a tower of stairs - maybe about 5 floors? You have to do the same on return so just plan accordingly. Parking was easy, but you need to pay at the meter (don't forget). Before I get into the journey, two hot tips - make sure you bring hiking shoes, flip flops aren't going to get it AND recommend bug spray. Alright so first we descended the stairs which bring you down the Niagara Escarpment and river level (ish). We took the Blue Main Loop trail and another hot tip is to go on the right side as it is easier at the end if you do. The entire hike is beautiful and surprising in terms of the views, trees, rocks and overall nature. Bring the map so you can see the "points of interest" like fossils, views, etc. You eventually get to the river, a cool little inlet/cove and the rapids which roar as you enjoy the hike. The boulders are so HUGE in some areas, this hike blew my mind in all the best ways. Hope you enjoy, it is absolutely worth the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNiagara Glen Trail is undoubtedly the most stunning trail in the Niagara region. You get to enjoy the wind rustling through trees, scenic up-close views, and the humbling roar of the lake, which is beyond stunning. The lush green trees cover most of the trail, which offers shade even during summers. The trails are well-maintained and properly marked, which makes them very easy to follow. I would recommend proper and comfortable hiking shoes, as the trail gets quite rocky in some areas. We took the mail trail (around 3 km), which offers stunning lookout points to Lake Niagara throughout the trail. However, the lake trail (around 600 m) towards the very end gives you a mesmerizing and up-close view of the turquoise waters of the lake. Don't forget to carry enough water and snacks with you, as the trail takes approximately 2-4 hours. This trail is a š and definitely worth checking out if you are in the Niagara region!
The entrance is free. The trail offers plenty of paid parking (8$/hr) and hygienic restrooms at...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreYouāve seen the Falls but thereās always more for the Niagara region to offer. About 20 minutes east of the falls, thereās an abundance of activities including this well maintained, moderate trail!
The metal stair structure is the only entrance and exit to the trail system. The trail system is very clearly marked. Lots of stone steps to pave large portions of the trail (moderately steep).
Views include: the Niagara River all along the River trail, large rocks and boulders (need a bouldering permit to climb), lush forest, and a variety of birds.
We went on a Wednesday that was forecasted to rain in the afternoon and lucked out with no rain. Abundance of parking spaces around 11-2pm. Washrooms beside the nature center are partially closed (as of writing). Bring enough water with you and carry your trash out; there are garbage and recycling bins located right at the top...
