Little Current Swing Bridge — Attraction in Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands

While traveling south on Hwy 6 from Espanola, you’ll eventually encounter a swing bridge standing between you and the journey onto Manitoulin Island.

This centre pivoting swing bridge, which opened in 1913, remains the only one of its kind in the world that is operational.

Every 15 minutes at the top of the hour, the bridge swings to allow marine traffic below to pass on either side of the bridge while all vehicle road traffic above wait behind red traffic lights.

Drove over the little Current swing bridge and it has only one lane. One side comes and then the other. Also every 15 minutes every hour it swings open to let the boat traffic pass below.
