The County is famous for it''s atmosphere of artisan wineries and fantastic beaches, but there's another "Lake" that does not get enough attention. Lake on the Mountain is located not far from, and above the Glenora Ferry, and it's vistas are stunning. It has a small inn and restaurant and a tiny brewery serving locally crafted ales. The menu has a nice variety, from salads to a charcuterie board, and we had a artisanal sausage, made with pork, white curd and jalapeno peppers that tasted just like MORE!!! Coffee is good and the service was fun and informative. The pub room serves food and drinks, and has been seen heading for the brewery to fill an order. Now that's fresh! Washrooms are up a very short flight of stairs, (two steps) so handicap access is limited, but the courtyard , pub room and dining room are all suitable, and there is handicap accessible washrooms across the road in the park. Casual and historic, good food and stories about the Lake on...
Read moreThis area has a lot of diversity: the view high above of Lake Ontario where you can see Loyalist Parkway continue via the free ferry that runs from Glenora to the section of road that continues east to Kingston and beyond and a small boardwalk and viewing area adjacent to the actual lake for fishing, photigraphy and just plain gazung into the water to watch the fish. There are picnic tables and wheelchair-accessible washrooms, as well as two licensed dining area, and two (or more) businesses with sleeping accommodations. This is not a lake with a public swimming area and I have never seen a boat on it. If memory serves me correctly, this is a bottomless lake and people have died here in the far-away past.
Regardless, we love it there and sometimes visit on snowy Christmas Days and take pictures of the ferry crossing the icy inlet and the snow on the...
Read moreI made a trip to sandbank provincial park but I was turned away, the park was full so we decided to go to Lake on the Mountain Provincial Park which is located not far from the Sandbank provincial park. There was nothing except for a small parking lot which you had to pay. There were few restaurants and houses but nothing else. Paying for parking was a struggle, many people struggled to pay for the parking, it was online but you had to create the account, it was mess. We paid $6 for 4 hours, but there was no place to see or enjoy. There were 4 picnic tables, I could not believe this place was designated as a provincial park, it was smaller than parkets around my home. I would not recommend this place. There was nothing to see or do any activities. We wasted our parking fee and left the place...
