The only plus point of this location is the view; other than that, it has the slowest service and not many food choices on the menu.
I got here before 4pm and there were 2 groups of seniors ahead of me in the lineup. One of the staff came to the waiting table and guided them to their table and then disappeared; to the extend that the senior couple in front of me went and sat down on the bench outside, waiting for her to come back. She came back after 15 15 minutes and got their and my number and put it on the list and disappeared again. We watched 2 groups finishing up their food and drinks and leave the restaurant. But, she never came to guide us to our table. Instead she was running around with the other waiting staff, literally doing nothing!!!
By the time she eventually decided to come to us, there was a huge lineup behind me. I'm not sure if they are deliberately doing it as a marketing tool to create a huge line up and make it look like they are more popular than the restaurant on the other side of the road or they are severely understaffed!
After more than 1 hour, I was led to my table, but again, it took them literally 20 minutes to bring me a menu! There is not many various or complicated options on the menu, a few flat breads, charcuterie and appetizers. So, I ordered a flatbread and waited forever for my food to arrive. Sometime in the middle of the 2 staff running around, one of them brought me a glass of water. I believe it was around 5:30 pm that they served my VERY SIMPLE flatbread. She asked me if I wanted another glass of water and went to bring me one, but by the time she brought me the next glass of water, I was already done with my food!
I requested the bill and I told them I would rather leave sooner. But then again, it took her 10 minutes to bring me my bill! It was almost 6:00pm by the time I could escape that place!
What is going on here? Is the owner keeping the restaurant understaffed as a marketing tool, or is too cheap to pay for more staff??!!
I don't think the view is worth being stood...
Read moreThey say the experience isn't good if the service is great and the food bad, alternatively if the food is stellar yet the service lacks. Unfortunately for us the hostess was so poor at her job, we weren't able to try the food.
Upon arriving, we asked if we could have the table that was being cleaned closest to the water (but it was taken by the guests ahead of us). So we were next in line and hostess showed us available tables and we said that table would be fine. She proceeded to ask us to step to the side until our table was ready, and then sat the group behind us at the table. When I asked why we didn't get sat there, she said "I thought you wanted a table with an umbrella". Then the next group walked in off the street and she sat them immediately. Again I asked her why we weren't now sat at that table and she said because she thought we wanted the table at front with umbrella. So finally frustrated I said "just put us PLEASE at any table. There's a 6top open right there". She refused cause we were a group of 4 and they never sit groups less than 5 at a 6top. I asked how many people were waiting, but we were the only group on the list. So she told us we'd have to wait for any of the deuces (2tops) to exit their tables made for 4.
My wife (who is very reserved, not outspoken, polite and respectful) just said "this was a very dissapointing experience." I know that when she of all people speaks up to say that, it was not good.
Waited for just shy of 35min to not get sat when we were first in line.
Date was July...
Read moreWhat an utter disappointment. I saw this place on the Great Waterway website as one of eight great patios to check out. I looked up the number for "Miller House" and called to make a reservation on the patio in an area where there was a nice view and that we were driving up from Kingston. She took my reservation and agreed we'd have a spot with a view. So when I got there we went around the side to the patio where there was no staff to be found. Then we went inside where still no one greeted us. Finally I asked someone who we talk to about our reservation. She said they don't take reservations and that they don't have a phone. That my reservation was at "The Inn" across the street (not facing the water /view that was so raved about). So when we got across the street we found our table sandwiched in the middle of a small patio, where the only view was everyone around you. I don't know if they're new to the popularity but when someone specifically asks for the MILLER HOUSE WITH A NICE VIEW ON THE PATIO and that they're driving an hour and a half, perhaps let them know that the patio with the view is at the Miller house across the road and that they don't take reservations and that if I do want reservations it will be for The Inn, NOT Miller House and that the Inn doesn't have a view. Needless to say, we left and tried the Riverfront Pub in Napanee and it...
