Read moreHighly recommended museum. My husband and I did the self-guided tour about 5 days ago over the weekend. The lady at the entrance was friendly and helpful. There are plenty of posters and digital screens with information to read and listen to in each room. We enjoyed the original furniture and seeing the original posters and pamphlets used to advertise Leacock's work. The place is clean, neat and tidy. If you love history, I highly recommend visiting this place. The only issue we had 2as the boathouse. The door and windows were covered in spiderwebs and there would be no way I would attempt to open the door to view the inside. We could see through the dusty window that there was a screen and some more things to view. So the only suggestions is to keep the entrance to the boathouse clean and accesible. Other than that, we enjoyed the whole tour and the house was fascinating. I would definitely visit again sometime...
Read moreWe came not knowing anything about Stephen Leacock or about this house. We were just visiting the area and thought we'd drop in. The staff was friendly. The history about Stephen Leacock was fascinating. We could see the effort that was put into beautifully retelling the story of this man. Recalling history and celebrating the beauty of his work is worthwhile. I was just super disappointed to see modern cultural touches that were added to this house. It made the experience less about history and more about politics. Specifically, a prominent rainbow flag at the entrance as well as all the gender symbols on the bathroom door. At this historic site we're celebrating Stephen Leacock, not pride. Of course everyone is welcome! Of course the bathroom is for everyone. Just a sign with a picture is enough. Modern touches to a beautiful historic site are the one thing that made me wonder what the point of...
