One of the most disappointing places to take children in terms of how high they set the expectation via website, public promotion and even signage at the actual location. “Sunday Funday” included zero and I mean zero, of the promised events. Not a single thing on site to suggest fun was happening. We were there for 2 painful hours. Tried to get the kids interested in the fishery section in the Learning Centre but even I was revoltingly bored. Nothing to interact with, play with, touch, feel…it was very frustrating at some points. They started hammering away on buttons they didn’t even understand. It was like moths that finally found light. Kids don’t want to read huge panels of detailed information, that’s not how they learn. 90% of the children there are not at a reading age. The entire museum is begging to become more interactive. My son was pretending to eat 2 dimensional corn on a plastic sign, 1. Being desperate to use his imagination, and 2. There is a single vending machine on site and that’s it, so he was probably hungry (mostly joking there, but make sure you bring snacks if you decide to go). For the animals, mostly just left everyone with a deep sadness for what we as a society do to have milk and meat. I don’t mean this in a whiny way either, I understand how things work. It’s the mood of the museum that made it feel sad. The goats made us laugh, so that was cool I guess. Constantly telling them not to touch the animals was difficult only because there was nothing else they could enjoy. Whoever is overseeing the learning areas of this farm needs to reevaluate their career and stop wasting all the money generated into massive collections of disappointment. The most exciting thing to interact with was the parking machine. Also, they had a movie presented at 10am. What family is waking up, getting their young children ready for a Sunday of activities, to sit and watch a movie at 10am?? Maybe 2pm when quiet time usually rolls around and the day gets hot. I swear there is zero logic in this place in terms of being a city attraction for families. I do want to give my compliments to the young people offering information from Parks Canada, for the camping demonstration. They were knowledgeable and very personable.

Oh man, that was a...

A Hidden Gem for Families - Canada Agriculture and Food Museum

We absolutely love the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum! It’s hands down our favourite spot to visit as a family, and it’s no surprise that it’s my kids’ top pick. My son, especially, has been asking to go every single day during the week, and we finally made it happen this past Sunday. And oh boy, it did not disappoint!

The museum has something exciting happening every 30 minutes, so there’s never a dull moment. From hands-on activities to interactive exhibits, the kids were completely engaged all day long. One of the highlights of our visit was when my kids got to participate in a cooking class – they made maple cupcakes! Being able to bake something so Canadian and delicious really topped off the experience. The cupcakes were amazing (and yes, we ate them all)!

Another memory that will stay with us forever was getting to meet the adorable baby cows and lambs. The little ones were just too cute, and it was heartwarming to see my kids learn about where their food comes from in such a fun and engaging way.

If you're looking for a place to spark joy and learning in your little ones, the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum is definitely worth a visit. It’s an enriching experience that brings our Canadian heritage to life, and it’s one we will be coming back to again and again....
