Lebel Mansion — Attraction in Pincher Creek

I came from California to visit friends in Calgary, and we stayed in Pincher Creek to visit Waterton Park. I decided to explore this neat little town on my own by foot. Saw the beautiful Lebel Mansion on a hill and wound up interviewing the staff about its history and present day function as an arts center. It was built in 1910 and was the residence of local businessman Timothee Lebel until 1924. The mansion was donated to the Roman Catholic Order Les Filles de Jesus for use as a hospital. In 1985 the town bought it, and it became the home of the Allied Arts Council. I was deeply impressed that many rural Canadian towns have arts and historical councils to amplify cultural pursuits.
