My wife and I went to Art Gala at the recommendation of a family friend who had worked with them in the past and had nothing but great things to say. I would also recommend their services without hesitation.
My in-laws have recently come to Canada from China to help look after our young children. They brought with them several very beautiful embroideries of excellent quality. So we decided to have them professionally framed out of respect for the artists and their works.
Edmund and his team were a pleasure to work with. I was very impressed with his expertise, service, and the quality of the product.
Expertise - framing the embroideries required us to choose the frames, the mats, and the type of glass (or in our case no-glare plexiglass). This process was greatly facilitated by Edmund's excellent eye for aesthetics, his knowledge of the materials and their associated pros and cons, and his willingness to work with us and our budget to give us the best bang for our buck. At one point he even recommended a more affordable alternative which would give us similar quality to a product I initially selected. This advice was very much appreciated.
Service - Edmund kept in touch with my wife throughout the process. The embroideries had been folded for transportation and they were of inconsistent thickness in different areas of each piece. This required great effort to flatten and press them appropriately. Originally, he had recommended that we keep the artist's signature visible on the bottom of the embroidery. But during the process of flattening the work it became apparent that keeping the artist's signature exposed would cause the overall aesthetic to suffer. Edmund immediately contacted my wife to discuss this issue (and provided pictures), and in the end it was decided to cover the artist's name with the mat board. Again, we appreciated this attention to detail and the desire to work with the customer to achieve the best possible result. When we came to collect the pieces, he even helped load them in our car!
Quality - We just hung our embroideries on the wall. They look fantastic. The fit and finish of the product is excellent. The quality of the materials is obvious. The little touches such as the perfect colour matching of the mat boards to elements in the embroideries is what really made paying for professional framing worth it. Our only problem is that our old paintings that we had previously framed ourselves with Ikea products now look cheap by comparison.
The other issue is always price of course. I think the price was very reasonable. It was not so cheap that I would be suspicious that they were cutting corners. But the price was significantly better than other professional framing services I have used in the past for my degrees. Again, Edmund was more than willing to work with us regarding the price and I felt we came to a very favourable agreement in the end.
So we have a new house and even with the four new pieces there is a lot of empty space on our walls that still needs to be filled. Once we decide how we want to fill it, we will certainly be coming back to Art Gala as...
Read moreI had a piece of artwork framed here in Aug 2018, however I was disappointed with the results (see attached pictures). I had someone else pick up the artwork for me and these blemishes were on the corners of the frame, which were covered by protective cardboard wrapping, so it wasn't noticed until I unwrapped it. When I emailed them these pictures the same day and requested that they fix it, they instead argued why it should be acceptable to me. They did not offer to fix it. Finally, they gave me a refund for the frame and dismantled it. I had this artwork reframed elsewhere, which did not have these blemishes and cost less. I suggest you...
Read moreI ordered a 16X24 frame online from this store - as there were many positives reviews on the great quality of the frame. Unfortunately, the frame came damaged with a crack in the plexiglass. I messaged the seller asking for a refund, and sent two photos of the crack. However, the seller (Edmond) felt the evidence I provided was not satisfactory and would not provide a refund. I will also mention the seller was not polite, and was rather difficult given that I had to provide two images. Still the two photos were not enough for him to provide a refund. I recommend buying your frame from another shop- hopefully one that provides better...
