Took a four weeks clay class. It's the worse experience ever. From the first class the instructor was not so helpful and not willing to give advise or instructions. One student in the class knew her some other class previously. Soon as the instructor gave a brief instruction, they started gossiping for almost the whole class. In the first class, one of the students start to use the wheel, the instructor didn't say anything. When other students start using the wheel, she said no it's not allowed. She requested me the wash the whole wheel and chair in the class, which I did. But she said that's not enough, and requested it needs to be cleaner than any other ones in the class. End up the one I used, cleaned like a brand new, when all others were dusty. She required me to even wipe the power cord with wet tower when it's connected with the power outlet. I told her that's not safe. She said it's required by the class procedure posted on the board. I went up to the board and not seeing such requiment of wiping the cord. In the third class I hand builder couple things, marked my name at the bottom of all of them, and took pictures of them. But pieces were missing when I came back in the fourth class. When I asked the instructor, she did not show any care or concerns and continues the gossip talk with the previous student again. I had to continue glazing on whatever I have after couple pieces missing. I'm very shock and upset when I came back to pick up my pottery after a week. One of the pot has a big scratch and with no glaze left on that side. One of the pot suppose to be yellow at the bottom and white on the top, now has all blue color spots on it... Please don't try to tell me that blue came from white and yellow mix... I would not recommend this class to anyone, instead I want to tell them to stay away, if they don't want to just throw $100 into the sea. Very disappointed and regret to take this class at such loss and...
Read moreOn the evening of February 19th I attended a talk and discussion of the Spindle Whorl travelling exhibition with renowned Musqueam artist, Susan Point at the SAC Theatre. Susan was easy going natural when describing her work over the years 1981 - 2020. Starring with learning silk screen printing and later branching out to learn many other creative arts, she described her history and creative process with help from her son Tom. The natural world became her greatest influence with salmon and frogs the signature motifs in the work. During the question and answer period the audience asked and referred to many interesting aspects of her career including her heritage, carving, stained glass creations, manhole covers, public relief creations & intaglio prints. All in all I had a wonderful evening. During the reception I was able to chat with Susan and convey my gratitude to her and her family for their contribution to my love, understanding and appreciation of her contemporary...
Read moreWhen is Art gallery open approximately a year ago there was a great deal of excitement. Now it is possible that I visited in between exhibitions or that there was some other reason for the lack of displays.. there appeared to be only three major installations and they were pretty average. I will go back when there is a production such as a stage play maybe that is when gallery and art center shine.
Footnote someone had placed a coach right next to the automatic door button to the entrance for the main gallery making an almost impossible for anyone in a wheelchair or scooter to reach the button. With so little traffic in the building the coach should be removed to allow easier access.
The attached photo is from one of the installation. A model of a house with a companion slideshow presumably showing its construction. Quite inventive overall but there needs to be a much wider range of exhibitions praying hopefully Surrey will increase the art...
