Rosetta McClain Gardens is a bit of paradise with it's rose gardens, 40 variety of trees and bushes.. No dogs allowed however the squirrels will entertain you with a tug on your trousers an troubling you for a second peanut.. Chipmunks can entertain with placing the nuts in a manor that allows 3 however each one has to be checked for quality, then an explosive run to the hideout.. It was last summer Jane & I watched a submarine go thru the water to be decommissioned at Port Weller.. All the raptors and butterflies, past thru these gardens on their was south and back in the fall. Many a camera butt stands at the ready to get amazing photos, and many post them on line. The view of the Lake is breath-taking. Foxes will visit from time to time, but will stay their distance. In the summer the rabbits will be helping the gardeners with weed removal.. Their favourite snack. The rock fountain will display a multitude of birds bathing and pruning themselves. The bluejays and the cardinals will try getting the best of a squirrel for a partially broken peanut.. And last but not least, the local raccoon will appear 2 hours early for a treat. The gardens at Rosetta is a peaceful and wonderous place to meet with friends and make acquaintances with like minded strollers... Don't miss this experience as there is something there to experienceat all seasons...
Read moreOf all the parks in The 416, I've recently come to realize that Rosetta McClain Gardens is in fact my favourite. I've lived in Toronto my entire life, but only discovered this park in the past 5 years or so. This lovely garden is not well-known, but I expect that'll change as word gets around.
I'd love to hug whomever arranges the annuals each year, because this is clearly done with love. The trees, too, are fantastic, with several stunning specimens of Norway Spruce and Douglas Fir—possibly over a century old based on their height. The squirrels are obviously spoiled, and will come right up and beg for food (I suspect feeding them is not actually good for them, but I give them a smile ... for which they have no use). From what I hear, birders love this place for all the raptors which come through. Also, the view of the lake from atop the cliffs is always dramatic.
An excellent place to catch your breath ... breathe deeply and enjoy!
Note that dogs are not allowed in...
Read moreUpdate: Weather was nice and the flowers and garden was growing nicely. Washrooms were up and running and clean. Garden is very well maintained and clearly lots of work is put into it as the lawn is perfectly cut and the plants and flowers are labeled. Water fountain at the center rock was running. Also noticed the no dogs and no biking signs. 3d map with braille in the North East corner. It's an incredibly lovely and tranquil place to go to if you're in the area.
Original: We went in the fall so the garden is bare and leaves everywhere. That said, it's a small and quiet garden with a nice walking path. Very small free parking lot on site and almost every tree and bench has a memorial plaque. Nice view of the lake and was quite a number of people when we went. Too high to see the beaches below. Likely stunning in the spring and summer. Has what looks like remnants of a small building in one corner. Nice quiet place...
