This park is about 130 years old. It’s a beautiful well maintained urban woodland park spans across 3000 acres. It has many boardwalks. These boardwalks make waterfalls Waddell and Howe are easily accessible and provide an exciting backdrop for photos of family and friends. It has washrooms but this park is not very wheelchair friendly.
Very tall pine trees and lots of squirrels and birds. It has a good parking lot and many entrances. If you are looking for some workout, you might wanna check out Jacob's ladder(147 steps) and some pull up bars at the top. All steps aren't the same size. It is open all year, but late spring and early summer would be ideal time to visit this park, as water levels would be at its highest. It is about a one and half hour drive from downtown Halifax. It's a beautiful and dynamic urban park. I love it for its natural features, including a dramatic steep-sided gorge, a winding river, cascading waterfalls, and a stately old-growth Eastern Hemlock forest. This place offers endless recreational, cultural and leisure opportunities. These include hiking, photography, birdwatching, day picnics, family gatherings, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, swimming, baseball, cultural events, live music, tennis, cycling and more.
If you are in Nova Scotia, and if you are a nature lover, I highly recommend...

Beyond this section of the park, when you make your way to the Reservoir Trail, the park opens up upon a beautiful lake where the town of Truro gets it's drinking water. All around this reservoir there are dozens upon dozens of BEAUTIFUL mixed wood trails where I often spend 4-8 hours exploring the pristine nature of Colchester County.
I've photographed over 50 different birds (even some rarer birds that we rarely see beyond the artic!), many White-tailed deer, muskrats on the Ponds, 3 different kinds of snakes, and even heard the howl of coyotes in the late evening.
Over the course of the 5 years I've been visiting this wonderful park, it's unspoiled beauty has truly changed the way I look at nature and the world in general.
A big thank you to the very kind staff that...
Read moreThere's a pool that costs $5/person (we didn't go there, though), there's a small splash pad there which was nice for cooling down, but not very creative. The only creative piece was a "fire hydrant". There was plenty benches around this play area (there were swings & things for the kids to climb on), & there were a few benches set beneath trees for shade. There were lots of picnic tables (some beneath trees for shade). There are bathrooms & you can change clothing there as well. There is a music band stand for concerts. There is an ice cream stand that states its inclusion policy; so they hire exceptional people (this makes me want to support this ice cream stand!). There are plenty of parking spaces. If one parking lot is full, you can use the other one on the other side, plus you can park along the side street. The area...
