A great mid-level hiking trail on the highway 60 corridor! Following this loop there is a good climb up along a stream following it's path in reverse as you see waterfalls and eddies from boardwalks, and at times even walking through it when it is high! From there you follow along the top of the hill to a great lookout, until descending down a steep hike to follow along a bog until reaching tranquil Bat Lake. The full loop is a little over 5.6km (they must start counting from the visitors register) and traverses a nice variety of terrains. Good hiking boots or shoes are a must, and being comfortable hiking up hills and heights without rails. Read moreI'm sure some of the hike was beautiful. But, due to the extreme amount of mosquitoes we were unable to enjoy any of it. We literally were running to get out. By the time we got back to the car we were covered in bites. This was all while wearing bug repellant that was fully functioning on other trails. At least the trail pamphlet was a semi-useful mosquito swatter that eventually turned into a graveyard for the ones that followed us...
Read moreProbably my favourite hike of Algonquin. So much variety in scenery. Portions of the trail will be extremely muddy (it will follow parallel to a stream) so be aware of that. If you want to avoid that section, I would recommend following the trail from the exit, and then turning back once you get to the areas with the submerged docks!
