The Roxy — Attraction in Victoria

Really cute space with friendly staff and a great indie lineup. We saw Howl’s Moving Castle which was so fun to see in a theatre!

The Roxy only has one theatre with a small stage and plenty of seating. Seats are just regular fixed seats and cup holders are affixed to the back of seats in front of you. The screen is slightly less elevated than other theatres so if someone is directly in front of you, your view might be obscured a bit.

There are two washrooms. The women’s washroom had two stalls, one accessible and one standard size. The bathroom amenities were nice.

One area for improvement would be concessions. There is popcorn, but it wasn’t prepared when we arrived 10 minutes before showtime and we had to come back out after a few minutes to buy it. There is no butter or oil topping available, and there is one size popcorn available (I’d call it regular size) for $8. This is around the same price as Cineplex and Capitol 6 but both of those offer free “butter” so I was surprised the popcorn at The Roxy wasn’t more affordable. Otherwise there were some bottled beverages and candy available, also for mainsteam prices.

Overall I had a good experience at The Roxy but there is definitely room for improvement when it comes to the guest experience that would help this indie theatre keep up with chain competitors. I’ll for sure be back if there are future...
