My husband and I came here on our vacation to Victoria. We had heard about it through a friend who had not eaten here but had heard about the place so we checked it out because it had good reviews. Now there's a difference between hole in the wall but sanitary with great food and questionably unsanitary. This place was the latter. I saw some things that would definitely warrant a health inspection. Like an old and used drink machine that was filled with water and had mold just floating on the top of it. The dead plants in the eating area outside were also not very inviting. I could go on....We took the risk and stayed since We had taken the bus to get there and there were other customers. People also seem to just get the Jamaican patties to go. Although when you look at the to go food that was in the deli counter some of it looked like it was pretty old. We had to ring the bill to get the owner to come out front even though there were two other people in the restaurant. The portions were huge the food was decent but after thinking about the way the restaurant looked I couldn't even bring myself to eat the leftovers the next day. When you first walk in you can see an old newspaper article of when the restaurant first opened and the huge difference to its current state. Clearly the owner is tired and needs help keeping the place up. He was very friendly though. I don't know why we took the risk. I was praying we would not get sick luckily we didn't. Never again. There's no excuse to keep a restaurant in that condition. Either get it together or shut it down. I don't...

THE OWNER OF THIS PLACE IS AN AGGRESIVE MAN!!! Today Saturday October 7th 2017, at 11am, my kids and I walked in to this place to start our day happy and enjoy a nice treat. Sadly it ended up as our worst experience ever In Canada. As soon as me and my kids walked in, after saying hi, I asked a question about some samosas and other treats and the owner of this place didn't respond my question but focussed his attention on my son, 8 years old. My son had a little sword toy in his hand and this man asked him if he was about to stab someone??? And I interrumped and said "it is just a toy. It was when he started getting upset saying that because of parents like me there are people in the world killing each other.. And him and started an argument and I told him we were there to buy some food and not to talk about parenting that it is not his bussines. And he started yelling at me and talking very aggressively to me and my kids. My son was scared!! And so do I and my daughter.. At the point that I for a moment thought that he was going to hurt us. So I grabbed my 2 kids and run out of his place. I don't know what his experience has beeing in his native country. But Canada is a country where we all have to respect each other. This man is aggresive and tottaly disrespectful. And did not care of frighten my kids. This is the worst place to go...

Stumbled upon this cute litte hole in the wall while visiting Victoria, BC. We ordered the Jerk Chicken Plate & Salt Fish & Ackee Patty. Omgoodness, the chicken was fall off the bone tender & the Jerk sauce was bursting with flavour. It tasted like it had been simmering for hours, as the flavours were so well developed. It had a nice kick of heat to it without being too spicy. The Vegetable Curry & Spanish Rice side dishes were well seasoned while not overpowering, allowing the Jerk Chicken to really shine. The Salt Fish & Ackee Patty, was delicious.

Not pictured, we also ordered 2 Chicken Patties which our son said was delicious. We also took a few cookie sandwiches to go & oh my they were so good!

James, the chef & I'm guessing owner, was a lovely host who treated us with great hospitality. He gave us complementary chutney, claiming it was the best chutney & he wasn't wrong. It truly was delicious & a wonderful accompaniment to our meal.

This place is a little off the beaten path & not in the touristy area of Victoria, however, it's definitely worth checking out. It's probably the best Caribbean food I've had outside of the Caribbean & I was married to a Bajan man for almost 20 years, whose mom & Aunties are amazing...

Place looks a bit run down and needs an update, no one was inside and had me a bit worried, but the craving for jerk was stronger. Glad I did, the jerk chicken itself was great, tender and juicy, could be spicier, but the flavour is there. The sides and the rice left more to be desired, maybe sitting on hot plate too long. The beef patty was a bit dry, heated by microwave, but it was loaded. Overall it was good, I can see how it was on newspaper in the past being the best Jamaican on the island, still tastes good and I would try again.

Hi James! Thank you for your great hospitality yesterday. I warmed up the pockets and Carribean/Jamaican lasagna thing this morning at the B&B where I am staying. They were all great😚 My boyfriend liked the veggie pocket the most, and I liked the salted fish and the fruit one the most. The lasagna was very similar to what we have in Canada, but the creaminess of the cheese compliments well with the veggies inside!! ✨ Thank you again and we will definitely come back when we visit Victoria.
