We took a slow, relaxing walk from Central Street and St. Sophia Church to the Harbin Flood Control Victory Memorial Tower—also known as the Flood Control Memorial Tower or Fountain Monument. It’s located at the north end of Zhongyang Street, right in Stalin Park by the Songhua River.
The walk itself was quite nice, with the lively street gradually giving way to the more open, peaceful park area. When we reached the tower, our guide shared the story behind it—how it was built to commemorate the efforts of the people of Harbin during the major flood in 1957. It was interesting to hear how the community came together during such a challenging time.
