Friendly staff, comfortable lodgings, nice restaurant, some entertainment for kids. A good vacation option for families with young kids.
Only an Ark replica on the outside. The inside contains various things; the whole third floor of the inside is a hotel! (One does not picture Noah and his wife sleeping on such a nice bed with air conditioning and an electric kettle with complementary jasmine tea.)
There is a nice garden with animal sculptures; a nice playground outdoors for the kids; a nice public beach outside the hotel; etc. Don't expect the same kind of endless entertainment one finds at Disneyland.
The Ark experience on the Ground floor is somewhat miscellaneous. There is the basic Ark story from the Torah, some exhibits of small live animals, and some simple interactive games. There is also a lot of information ranging from an explanation of how an Ark with the biblical dimensions provides maximum safety and comfort to instructional videos on ecology and ecosystems.
The impression it leaves one with is something like "God gave us an amazing world; let's take good care of it!" Much better than most kids' infotainment these days, although alongside the caring-for-creation theme, which is a real biblical teaching, I would have recommended more Torah ethics, especially "Love the Lord your God" and "Love your neighbor...
Read moreWe visited with 2 small children. The main reason we came is because my son is fascinated with fire trucks and we saw the advert for firemen activities. However he was not allowed to participate in an activity in the smoke house as he is under 5 years old, not even with an accompanying parent. Then we enquired if he can participate in the water shooting game but staff did not even allow us to do so as they said that forms a package with the smoke house. We asked if we can pay the full price tokens, skip the smoke house but just let our son shoot water but everything was impossible, and staff at the fire engine section appeared very unfriendly and unhelpful, like they don't like children. It was heavily raining so we asked to go inside the covered area of the fire engine station playhouse. There was a model of a fire engine where children can press a button for lights and nee naw sound - however staff were annoyed by my children pressing the sound button (though that's what the car was designed for!) and they kept telling the kids not to press on anything. This has affected the impression of the park visit and we feel we overpaid for this experience.
On the positive side, the museum and indoor play area (where children of all ages are welcome) was nice. My daughter also enjoyed the Japanese dessert...
Read moreIf you're looking for somewhere to stay to have fun or stay overnight before or after coming from the airport, this is the place the ark in Hong Kong provides great entertainment for children of all ages.
I happen to have stayed here for just one evening to then spend the next day for some activities for my kids. What we found was that it was a place not only of fun but of rest. The views from the harvest restaurant were stunning. The food decent, the service. Excellent.
This truly is a unique view that you won't find elsewhere in Hong Kong. I would recommend booking on a weekday because it's much less busy and you'll probably get a great view from the restaurant to the water and the bridge.
Staying in the hotel was a great experience as well. Overall again, the folks at the hotel were very hospitable. The only problem was that the fire alarms on the ceiling would blink at night, so I'd highly recommend them cover up those blinking lights.
Whether you are of the Christian faith or not, the ark experience in itself is very enjoyable, especially for children. For the Christian, let this...
