We've used Andy for outdoor coaching several times now after my daughter's indoor climbing squad coach recommended him - he has been superb each time. Andy is extremely skilled and does a brilliant job of tailoring the session to the abilities of the audience, encouraging you to push yourself while not overwhelming you. As well as encouraging safe and fun climbing, he's also very good at picking up ways to improve technique and teaching respect for the environment. Even after our session he freely gave up his time to give me some guidance when I had safety concerns about our local school's climbing instruction, even calling me for nearly an hour to give me some advice and sending me some material to assist. Through my daughter's competition climbing I meet lots of coaches, who almost all know Andy and always speak highly of him, which shows the respect that he holds in the industry. I'd not hesitate to recommend him to anyone looking for fun, friendly and professional coaching.

I can't say enough about our fantastic experience with Climb for Life and our rock rigging day led by Andy. His experience and expertise is more than evident. He patiently guided both my partner and I through every aspect of rock rigging, leaving us feeling not only confident but excited to rig on our own. Andy's teaching methods are brilliant, breaking down complex concepts into easily digestible pieces of information. He never compromised on safety, making sure we were comfortable at all times. His friendly and down-to-earth approach made the day so enjoyable, and it went by so quickly! We can't wait to put our newly acquired skills to the test. If you're considering any aspects of climbing tuition rock, I highly recommend Climb for Life with Andy. We'll definitely be booking again for when we want to progress further!

Andy took me bouldering in Bowden Northumberland. I didn't have much experience bouldering outside and was referred to him by Alien Bloc (the bouldering gym in Edinburgh). He was responsive, kind and helpful in guiding me through the experience. He knew the area really well and put me on a good climbs all day. We climbed a bit of everything from slab to cave. It was great to have someone with his experience and skill to ask questions to. I was visiting the UK (live in the US). If you are new to the area its well worth it to have someone like Andy who has been climbing in the UK for 30+ years show you around. Great conversations, not to mention this guy is flipping strong! I hope I get the opportunity to climb with him again soon!

Andy is a rare find. He is a coach and instructor of rare humility and broad and deep experience, both personally and professionally.

I've had the benefit of being coached, instructed, developed, mentored and assessed by Andy in numerous settings, and his calm and reassuring manner takes the anxiety of situations allowing you to focus and perform when you need to.

His knowledge of both technical, technique and psychological areas in climbing is vast, and he has an emotional intelligence that is rare in the wider world, let alone the outdoor industry.

I would happily and thoroughly recommend Andy to anybody interested in experiencing the outdoors, either as a beginner or someone who wants to improve their abilities in whatever realm, be it learning new technical skills for taking on multi-pitch climbing, how to develop their bouldering or climbing technique or work through the mental intricacies of trad head game.

Andy has also delivered several courses on behalf of our climbing wall and its instructors. He is an excellent educator of new instructors and coaches and delivers both an affirming and positive experience but also, in parts, a vast amount of knowledge in a simple package it is easy to...

You won’t find a more genuine, humble teacher than Andy. Such a great guy, who’s years of knowledge and technical know, is like an on hand, practical encyclopedia of climbing and the outdoors. It’s really does feel like a privilege to be able to learn off an original “old schooler” of the climbing world.

As Andy is also a highly regarded instructor within the industry, everything you learn is upto date, with an ethos on safe, simple, no fuss climbing using best climbing practices mixed with Andy’s own superb climbing technique. With that in mind, you also benefit from the fact Andy is a truly exceptional climber. He makes it all look effortless. By all accounts, he was one of the best in his day (not that he ever mentions that!) so you get to hone your own style through studying Andy’s brilliant subtle climbing technique. Whether your wanting to start out trad or sport climbing or get alpine prep in, Andy’s can guide you through all the steps to...
