This adventure was my favorite part of my trip to Colombia!! We booked through Parapente’s website, and received a confirmation email from Liz. Once we arrived in Medellin, I texted Liz via WhatsApp to confirm the reservation. We chose the taxi option, so Liz told us that the taxi would meet us at our hotel at 9 am. It’ll help to ask them the name and cab number of the taxi driver so you can identify him/her. The ride to Parapente’s site was about an hour from El Poblado. We signed some waivers paid the money for the tour (they accept cash or credit card) and were on our way to the paragliding take off site. You have to climb ~100-150 steps to get to the top of the hill. Once at the top, we met our pilots, and waited 30 minutes for the wind to pick up. Once the weather was optimal they put the gear on us and from there we were flying. So glad we chose the GoPro option to have the pics and videos for our memories. What an incredible experience!! Once we were done, we met Liz back at the Parapente site and she showed us our pics on her tablet (we had iphones so we couldn’t immediately view them). Out taxi driver subsequently took us back to our hotel, and we paid him the transfer fee at the...
Read moreYesterday, I made my first paragliding flight in my life. It was a trandem flight. We went up from Medellin by car reaching at a place where we could easily park and make our registration and payment at the offices of San Felix. Then we had to take a long stairway up to the place where all the flights take off. From the stairways, the view of the Rio Medellin velley is just amazing. On top, we had to wait for our turn. However it was not at all boring aa we saw how the people took off and landed. It was amazing to see some paragliders making loopings in the air. It was really awesome. Then it was my turn and I got a helmlet, a harness and a camera for filming my take off and landing as well as making some photos while flying. Then my pilot who was behind me atatched me to his harness and then the paraglider to our attached harnesses. We had to run and two helpers helped us to take off. It was phantastic. After 15 minutes of extraordinary sightseeing, we landed safe again. I can recommand that place to everybody who want to live such an experience for the first time. All was good organized and I felt safe...
Read moreParagliding in Medellin is relatively inexpensive. All operators more or less have the same price. Parapente San Felix is a licensed operator and I felt completely safe during the flight. Nice that videos and photos are included (you can do the filming yourself). For some reason we only flew above the mountain and not above the city as others were doing (which I would have preferred).
Communication could be better. They send you standard WhatsApp message with information which is not always fully correct (E.g. stating that it is a cold day when it is not). They give you the impression that you reserve a time and although I understand that timing also depends on weather conditions, in practise the time of your flight depends on the order people show up at the desk, irrespective of you reservation. No directions how to get to the take-off area (the one for San Felipe is a bit higher than others). When arriving at the take-off, someone wrote down our name and did not tell us anything (like wait for x minutes). All no big issues (and no reason not to use this operator), just the difference between good...
