It's the largest park in Bogotá, with paths for walking, running, bicycling, and hiking. It also has several football playgrounds, and a boat rental place as it also has a lake with local, wild birds and fish. If you attempt to walk it completely at a leisure pace you'll take more than three hours. People usually visit on Sundays to have a lazy morning and afternoon, and have lunch there. Several chicken and empanadas' shops are inside, and you could even get traditional soups and fruit salads and juices. There are places specially designated for children, including a sand area to play. Some people prefer to visit as early as 6 am, and on Sundays the parking lot will be especially full from 11 am onwards to 4 pm. Some people take their tents to have a family 'camping' day or celebrate birthdays or other special occasions outdoors without leaving the city. It is also great for families with dogs as the place is very clean and offers plenty of space for your furry friend to run and enjoy at ease without any danger from cars or street traffic, but be careful with the bicycles or skaters around as sometimes they can drive fast.
The Virgilio Barco Library is close by at the east side of the park which can add to a complete family plan for those who like to combine some outdoor activities and some cultural ones. It is also close to the Salitre Magico park, which offers mechanical attractions, and it's also located somehow close to Bogotá's Botanical Gardens.
I love to visit the place when it is not that crowded, around 8 am to 11 am on Sundays, although visiting it at its peak can also be fun, depending on the activity and the time of the day. During regular weekdays it's a lovely way to scape from the city fast pace, and have a close encounter with nature and silence.
The park is frequently used for open air concerts like Stereopicnic or Rock al Parque, and on those occasions it is closed to the general public. Check beforehand if there's any special event to...
Read moreThis is a huge park in Bogota, very clean with many spaces to share with the family, you can bring your tent safely, you can bring your own lunch, but you have other options to get food inside the park though I always bring my own food to secure freshness, there are public bathrooms well maintained, a secure parking lot, a big lake in the middle with some fish and ducks to see, you can even rent a canoe to paddle, I counted 10 different mini parks for kids inside, plus some sandboxes for children also, there are some bike tracks, you can do skates, so, many good options, the only thing that I would like to see more is security guys, that's why I don't put 5 stars, I don't see enough security for the amount of people, not that I have need that before but it would feel...
Read moreReview for February 2019. Parque metropolitano Simon Bolivar is located in cundinamarca Bogota Colombia. It is a very large Park and they are so many activities to do here. I saw many cyclists, many joggers and definitely lots of families walking with their kids and pets. Very family-oriented atmosphere. You can also rent paddle boats and take a ride down the enormous Lake in the center of this park. There's also lots of food you can come and enjoy. The coffee in Columbia is second to none. But they also have other food like arepa, masorca, and Colombian ice cream. I'm not guilty, to say that I absolutely enjoy nature and Parks. I truly did have a wonderful time here. Special thanks to my good Colombian...
