Beware of extortion.
On the one hand, the valle de Cócora is a beautiful place and worth seeing. However, rather then being a government owned park, it is split between two private land owners.
Each of the land owners charges a separate entrance fee to their part of the land because they’re too bitter to work out an agreement. Neither of them posts the prices Anywhere in the park except when you arrive at the point where you have no choice but to pay and it seems that they’re slowly raising the price by about 20% every few months.
It’s not expensive but it just feels bad - if you do the full loop of the valley, you need to pay both to enter and to exit. Paying to exit feels like extortion. The government of Quindio should step in here as the impression this makes on tourists is very poor.

Read moreFantastic hike. Many people on trail but not busy. You get a 8,000 COP round trip from Solento that is a nice and smooth trip with great views in an ole jeep willy... quite classy. Don't let anyone scam you for fes on the hike as as many do. A young man at a gate wearing official gear asks people for 3,000 COP for going through private property. No need I found out later. Back to the upsides of the hike: fantastic terrain with middle level difficulty. 6.6.5 mi loop and at a 14 min a mile pass with stops we made it around in just under four hours. The path through the river is recommend to do as you Way down but it makes little difference what end you want to start and end on. I could go on about the amazing nature you will see but no need to spoil the treat ahead of you. Prepare to take some really neat fog pictures with...
Read more100 PERCENT WORTH SEEING!! We travelled 7hrs on a bus from Medellín to Salento and 20 more minutes hanging onto the back of a Jeep to get to El Bosque de Las Palmas.
Whilst travelling, I enjoy seeing the biggest, smallest, tallest, etc. of something everywhere I go. So of course I had to travel here to see the world's tallest Palm Trees which grow up to 61 metres.
My partner and I spent just over 2hrs here and quite honestly you could spend an entire day hiking here. We didn't quite have the energy that day, so we found a nice spot up the hill and just enjoyed the scenery. If tall Wax Palm trees aren't your thing there are goats and llamas you can pet. :)
I can't recommend this place enough - from the thrilling Jeep rides to the breathtaking beauty of the Colombian Andes, you should NOT miss this spot whilst you are...
