Sloppy Joe's Bar, Havana — Attraction in Prado

I really wanted to like this place - it is the original, after all. Re-opened after many years and it's famous. To be sure, the interior is gorgeous, the pictures of past and present patrons add atmosphere. Yet it feels somewhat corporate, almost like a sports bar next to a mall, with its flat screen TVs over the bar. At least on a weekday afternoon, it really felt like any other American bar, air-conditioned to the point that it hurts. Drinks are great but overpriced, particularly if you notice the mystery charge that will casually be added to your bill. Sloppy Joe's is considered an iconic bar by some. Although I like the decor of the interior, the atmosphere is lacking and the cocktails are average at best. I stuck around long enough to get an overall feel, and was relatively disappointed. I enjoy the neighbourhood and the culture of the surrounding area. I also enjoy walking through the bar and seeing all the artifacts from the old days. Photos of Frank Sinatra and other American cultural icons are housed in large glass cabinets. We stopped in after a very long early morning sigh seeing tour. It has an extensive Menü. The sloppy joe isn't what you think of America but was equally good. A Cuba libre is highly recommended here. The staff were very friendly and accommodating ... They also spoke English which was helpful. The bar's walls are lined with photos of famous people who visited long ago. Along with not so famous.
