Playa Grandi, aka Playa Peskado, is the best beach in Curacao for snorkeling. As other reviewers mentioned, turtles are pretty much guaranteed due to regular feeding by local fisherman. We showed up at 3 pm. We right away saw a turtle but there were a lot of people swimming around and right up to it. We just broke from the group and within a few minutes, 3 more turtles showed up for our own private viewing. The snorkeling on the right side of the beach along the cliff is also very nice and has an interesting texture.
The beach itself is not huge, but there was more than enough shade when we got there (for 3 USD/chair). We went on a Sunday, which is when all the bikers take their motorcycles out to the north/west point of the island. There were a few bikers revving their engines quite loudly, which was a bit annoying. If this would bother you, avoid coming here on a Sunday afternoon. One last point: since the beach is at the north/west point of the island, you will get a perfect...
Read moreCrowded beach with turtle guarantee. We were there on a Friday the whole day and the fishermen threw out fish guts throughout the day, so the turtles were there most of the time. If you snorkel on the left side of the pier all the way to the next beach you are in for a nice treat with an abundance of fish and corals. Probably the best snorkelling so far here. Saw moray eels, puffer fish and trunkfish. The amenities are very basic and there are not many umbrellas, so if you want shade you probably need to be there very early (or late - the crowds thinned out after 2pm). Sun beds are 5 NAF and toilet is 1 NAF. There is a small snack shop and the Mr Turtle food-cart where you can get chicken nuggets and fries or fresh grilled fish. As far as street food goes this was amazing! Super friendly cook who grilled the fish fresh and even bothered to include proper salad. Definitely recommend if...
Read moreFirst, parking atop the hill and taking the stairs down by the yellow inn and dive is recommended. While getting chairs and staying ahwile is one tactic, you could also just make it a :30-:45min stop on your day down the coast. Snorkeling with the turtles is fantastic, but don’t touch them. And definitely don’t be an idiot and kick your feet non-stop in the water, as I saw a turtle get kicked 6-7 times because people don’t know how to float. There is food here at the beach, otherwise just down the street merely seconds or a minute are 2-3 solid restaurants with seating and views.
There is one awkward part of the experience at this beach, which is when the fisherman tossing fish parts to turtles hops into the water and puts a woman in his arms and entices a turtle ontop of her. Just sorta gross in many ways, so we chose to walk away when this weird...
