Awesome views from top of the mountain at an altitude of around 800m or 2,600 ft. Can see Puerto Plata, Tahino Bay and the Port below! However, there's something to be aware of: the mountain top is covered with clouds most of the time! Which covers up the views almost always! So to be able to see a clear view from up there, you need to have a lot of patience and wait for a brief moment of some clearing of clouds. Or go up early in the morning when there's better possibility to have a clear view without clouds. I was able to capture a clear view of the top of the mountain from the cruise ship deck early in the morning when there were no clouds at the top, but when we arrived at the summit around noon, it was totally covered with clouds! For a brief moment I was able to get some shots within a small window of cloud clearing, but still with limited visibility, and managed to edit the images and get a boost of visibility of the partially covered views. I was able to pull up a quite clear view of our cruise ship from above using the telephoto lens at maximum reach. I'm posting this image here, along others showing some of the better views I was able to get. So... if you want to get a clear view of the city and the sea from the summit at the highest altitude, be aware that it won't be so easy, and try to get up there early in the morning when it's more possible to have a clear view. Alternatively, since it's only the very highest top of the mountain that's usually covered in clouds, you can also try to find along the way a lower vantage point that is still high enough to get a good view of the sea side, but at a slightly lower altitude that is just clear of the cloudy summit.

Isabel De Torres National Park is an absolute gem in the Dominican Republic, and I can't recommend it enough! 🌳🌿 From the moment I entered the park, I was immersed in a lush, tropical paradise. The hike to the summit was an adventure in itself, with winding trails that led me through dense forests filled with diverse flora and fauna. The botanical gardens along the way were a true delight, showcasing the region's unique biodiversity. Reaching the top and encountering the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue was a breathtaking moment. The panoramic views of Puerto Plata and the coastline were absolutely stunning. It's as if I had discovered a secret vantage point to admire the beauty of the Dominican Republic. The park is exceptionally well-maintained, and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, providing insights into the park's history and natural wonders. There's a sense of tranquility up there that's hard to describe, making it a perfect place for reflection and connection with nature. Isabel De Torres National Park is a must-visit for anyone traveling to Puerto Plata. It offers a unique blend of adventure, natural beauty, and cultural significance that will leave you with memories to cherish for a lifetime. Don't miss this incredible experience! 🌄🌺🇩🇴 #IsabelDeTorresNationalPark #NaturalBeauty

We attempted to climb the mountain ourselves, but were met with restrictions from the park security and tour guides at the entrance. The park guides were reluctant to give us any information on the trail. Eventually, a tour guide price was agreed to escort us for $80 (started at 120) for the descent only. We agreed to the tour guide just so they leave us alone. The trail was slick and steep at the section especially at the top and there were no clear demarcations. I'm pretty sure we were following a dried up river bed for the first 1/3 of the hike. The difficulty overall was moderate, but be prepared with good boots and a hiking stick. Bring at least 1L of water and some bug spray. If you're really interested in hiking up, get a taxi to the school that is closest to the park. Find the baseball field and follow the 1st base line all the way to the end. There will be trails heading uphill. Take the 2nd trail.-Daniel

This is such a beautiful place and a terrific site to see if you're in Puerto Plata. The teleférico wasn't working while we were there (I think it's been under repairs for a while now) but it's worth the drive. But you might need a four wheel drive, the road is so so steep going up there the car barely made it and we were in a Honda CRV. Once there there is, of course, a gift shop and some nicer bathrooms too. There are paths all over the mountain through the gardens and the plants are really beautiful. There were butterflies and birds and the temperature is cool with a great breeze. The view from the top is great and the statue is also a good thing to see. The Casita Típico, or traditional house is pretty authentic and great to see. There's even a tiny cave and pavilion and lots of seating. We had a great time and would recommend the excursion!

Riding the cable car to the top of the mountain offered breathtaking views of the coastline, cities and some jungle vegetarian. We could see the DR from a vantage point that truly makes you appreciate the wonder and beauty of this eclectic country. At the summit there are dancers that greet you smiling and performing, great photo ops with the Christ The Redemer statue, jungle, cave, model house, lagoon, and Resturant. The only issue was the super pushy booth owners that "volunteer" to take the best photo then beg and pressure you to shop inside the dome. As we have traveled frequently enough all over to experience this as tourists, we quickly thanked them and exited the dome to continue enjoying our time taking in nature. Just be aware, offer a firm but respectful "no thank you" quickly and enjoy Mount Isabel De Torres!

HIKERS BEWARE! As the teleferico was closed (they told me it was opening on Dec 15 again), we wanted to hike up the mountain. The route should take about 2 hours but it took us closer to 3.5 hours as we got lost multiple times. The entrance of the route is in San Marco, and we asked the local people to show it to us as it is really hard to find. The hike up was challenging, because the path was not always clear. We roughly followed the dotted line in Google Maps, but got off route many times. It's best to follow the water pipe as long as possible. At the top we could hop on the back of a motorcycle who brought us down. Even though its possible to do it alone, I would highly recommend getting a guide. The hike itself is beautiful though and very rewarding to reach the top with its stunning views!
