Beautiful views of the city, and great walk through cloud forest along winding paths. Good birding as well.
The mountain was pretty consistently covered in cloud in the afternoon so it is better to go in the mornings, we got there for opening time around 8:30 and had the place to ourself for about 45 minutes before tour busses started coming.
The teleferico is closed for a while, so getting to the top took some planning. The taxis we spoke to by the cathedral said they would take a group of 6 people to the top for 150 USD, and the busses are 20 USD per person. We spoke to guides elsewhere in the region who said you could hike to the top but it is 2.5 hours, strenuous, and you should have a guide because the Trail system is unmarked.
We ended up renting a car for a couple of days and driving up. The road is in pretty good shape and not very busy.
