This was a really rewarding experience. I went to Pico Isabel de Torres on a ship sponsored shore excursion through Norwegian Cruise Line. I know some people choose to hike up the mountain however, I chose an open air motor coach to do the heavy lifting while I enjoyed the incredible views on my way to the peak. Cool history lessons at the summit, Christ the Redeemer statue there as well and lots of panoramic opportunities for picture taking. This is definitely a beautiful place to visit and appreciate the scenic view of Puerto Plata. HOWEVER....watch out for the tourist trappers.....Remember this name. Nelson B. We were approached by this slick vendor (Nelson B) who took it upon himself to take our pictures. He is deceiving. He will tell you his store is approved by the government and your tour guide, as he tricks you into entering it. DO NOT FALL for it. He's pushy and his stuff is extremely over priced. You can get all this in the old city much cheaper. Don't forget the name Nelson B. The fraudster. All the pictures he took were overexposed...
Read moreWe hiked up and took the cable car down. There are guides available at the main ticket office that can take you up. I read some reviews that said they hiked on their own but we were there in the off season and the trail was pretty overgrown we would not have been able to stay on course without the guide. Guide was open to negotiation which was good as the original price was ridiculous (Still feel like it was too high) Make sure to bring cash (he charged us 80).
