The Colorful Life of the Nubian Village. The Nubian Village, located along the Nile near Aswan, offers visitors a vibrant glimpse into an ancient culture full of color and tradition. Its houses are painted in vivid shades of blue, yellow, and red, reflecting the cheerful character of its people. Historically, the Nubians were farmers and boatmen, but today their main occupation revolves around tourism, welcoming visitors into their homes and lives. As you stroll through the charming alleys, you will find families eager to share their customs, sell handmade crafts, spices, and colorful textiles. Many homes also keep live crocodiles in small enclosures—a practice linked to ancient traditions honoring Sobek, the crocodile god. Guests are often invited to see and even touch these reptiles, adding an exotic element to the visit. The locals are warm and charismatic, but their insistence can feel overwhelming. They often offer henna tattoos, souvenirs, camel rides, and even pose for photos—but these come at an extra cost. Even when they take photos, they expect payment for this “service”. Finally, the view from the Nubian Village is unforgettable. The golden desert sands meet the shimmering blue Nile, creating a magical scene that stays in memory long after the visit ends.

We visited the Nubian Village in the evening, taking a beautiful boat ride on the Nile as the sun slowly set behind the desert hills. The golden light, the cool river breeze, and the rhythmic splash of oars made the journey feel almost magical. As we approached the village, bright houses painted in blue, yellow, and pink greeted us from the riverbank — every wall seemed to tell a story. The Nubian people were warm and welcoming. We were invited into a family’s home where we saw their pet crocodiles, safely kept inside small enclosures — quite an experience! Their hospitality was genuine; they offered us hibiscus tea and shared stories of their culture and traditions. Outside, the narrow streets were full of local markets selling handmade jewelry, spices, and colorful crafts — a paradise for souvenir lovers (don’t forget to bargain a little!).

Arriving here by car is a bit misleading because the road is not in a good condition. However. Once you arrive, you will find a nice place. Food is great (we tried fried fish and mix grilled). The rooms are comfortable enough. A super nice please to go to the bar/restaurant and...
