Brief History of Saleh Al-Jaafari Mosque:

The Saleh Al-Jaafari Mosque is located within the vicinity of Al-Azhar Mosque in Cairo and was built around the resting place of Sheikh Saleh Al-Jaafari (1910–1979), a prominent scholar, Sufi, and teacher at Al-Azhar University. Originally from Libya, he became one of the most influential spiritual and intellectual figures of his time in Egypt.

Known for his deep love of the Qur’an, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and traditional Islamic sciences, Sheikh Saleh Al-Jaafari attracted a large number of students and followers. After his passing, the mosque became not only a place of worship but also a center for Sufi gatherings, Quranic studies, and spiritual development.

The principal mosque of the famous scholar and Imam of al-Azhar, Shaykh Salih al-Ja'fari and his noble son, the late Shaykh Abd al-Ghani. Like the majority of their mosque complexes, here you will find a hospital, a pharmacy, a bookshop (easily the best stocked spiritual literary bookshop in Cairo) and a huge prayer space, where daily classes are held and attract hundreds of students. هو العالم الأزهرى الشيخ صالح الجعفرى شيخ الطريقة الجعفرية، وحفيد "النبى"- عليه الصلاة والسلام- حيث ينتهى نسبه إلى جعفر الصادق ثم إلى محمد الباقر إلى زين العابدين بن الحسين بن سيدنا على بن أبى طالب- كرم الله وجه.. وبسبب نسبه الطاهر يعمر مقامه بالزوار والمريدين من كل المحافظات، كما أن له مريدين يتوافدون من السودان إلى مقامه بالدراسة بسببه أصله المصرى السودانى.

جد الشيخ "صالح الجعفرى" ولد فى الأقصر، ثم هاجر إلى السودان، ليولد الشيخ صالح فى دنقلة بالسودان عام 1910، كما يقول الشيخ "أشرف حامد حسنين" إمام المسجد، مضيفا أنه بعد أن بلغ الشيخ صالح عمر الـ 19 عاما عاد إلى مصر ليدرس فى الأزهر، والتحق بكلية الشريعة وحصل على الشهادة العالية ثم العالمية وهى تعادل الدكتوراه، ثم عين إمام للمسجد الأزهر الشريف وكان مجاور للأزهر، حيث كان له درس يسمى درس الجمعة يجتمع فيه مع تلاميذه، ويحضره القاصى والدانى، وقد توفى الشيخ فى عام 1979 عن عمر 69.

الجميع يعرف سيدى صالح الجعفرى فهو مؤسس الطريقة الجعفرية، وله الكثير من التلاميذ الذين يحرصون على زيارته من مختلف المحافظات والبلدان طوال الوقت كما يقول الشيخ "سيد عبدالمنعم " أحد الزوار المحبين لسيدى صالح والذى جاء برفقة ابنه "عبد المنعم" لتعريفه بمقام الشيخ، مضيفا أن الكثير من التلاميذ يتواجدون فى محافظات الصعيد وأسوان والسودان وعدد من الدول الأفريقية.

هناك أكثر من 80 مسجدا تشبه تصميم مسجد سيدى صالح فى الشكل وتحمل أيضا اسمه بناها تلاميذه من مختلف المحافظات على غرار مسجده الذى بناه بنفسه، وأتم بنيانه فى حياته، وخصص منه مكانا ليدفن به فى نفس مكان المقام الموجود حاليا.

وللشيخ صالح الجعفرى مولد يقام أول خميس من شهر رجب من كل عام، يحتفل فيه تلاميذه بتنظيم حلقات المدح النبوى وبعض حلقات العلم، حيث يقول "الشيخ أشرف"، لقد كان الشيخ إمام الأزهر وحامى حمى الشريعة حيث كان دائما يقول سيدى صالح: "ما عندنا لهو ولا غرور.. ولا خرافات ولا ظهور.. بل عندنا الله هو المقصود.. الواحد...
