This place is nice and comforting. Before my planned visit I had the terrible idea to check the reviews on the Internet. Lots of adults saying it becomes boring, that there is not much to do, that this is just a place to buy more stuff after buying your ticket. However I have to disagree with that.
First of all: I don't speak Finnish, I barely understand Swedish. Only my English is fine, although it isn't my native language. I am an adult, not a child. The day I went there, I was alone. I am shy, anxious, interacting is difficult for me. At first I decided to walk, get familiar with the place. I told myself that if it got boring I would leave quickly.
But there are so many shows, one every hour, or even every 30 minutes at some point. And there are always many characters (actors, I know, but let's keep the magic) hanging around. Many activities to participate in EVEN as an adult.
The characters were willing to interact with me. Sure, the children come first, that is normal. However I got to talk with most of them. I was able to hug Moomin and friends multiple times. And it was easy to interact with the ones forbidden to talk as well. They were all in character until the end, I loved it.
Now about the rest of the staff, especially those in the shops: they're amazing. The ones in the photo activity stand the day I visited were very nice and talkative. They perfectly explained how the activity worked. I was delighted to see my picture with Moomintroll.
At some point it started raining, there was a huge storm for ~1h. The woman at Little My's Candy Shop was nice to all the people who stayed there until the weather became better.
I stayed until the closing time. Thank you Moominworld for the wonderful experience. If you go there, have fun. Be willing to...
Read moreI didn't grow up with Moomins as a kid; they hadn't really penetrated into the States in the late-80s/very-early-90s when I was in the right age bracket. My husband, however, did and when they discovered there was a whole Moomin theme park they were quite excited to go. We made an expedition of it, travelling by bus and walking the rest of the way, and it turns out it's unlike any other theme park I've been to, which might explain why a lot of the other (American) reviews read the way they do.
According to my husband, Moomin World captures the Moomin /vibe/--a kid-friendly place where everyone's welcome and it's generally pretty chill. It takes advantage of the natural scenery of the island and a good portion of it is essentially a walk in the woods, which is quite the change of pace for such places. Sure, there are crowds around the Moomins and the events, as are to be expected, and such are geared more towards small children, but we are talking about a series of books written for small-to-medium children so it all scans. Catering to their target audience in a way that actually respects them is nothing to be critical over. The actors will also do what they can to encourage childlike wonder in adults so my take is that if you go in with the right vibe you'll get the right result.
(Personally, not knowing anything about Moomins other than they're beloved friend-shaped Finnish creatures, my vibe was my usual "Starfleet Science" curiosity and exploration. Served me well enough, I think.)
Sure, it's not as high-energy as Disneyland (take with a grain of salt; I last went to Disneyland around maybe 1989 and have since refused to go back to avoid the disappointment of necessary marketing changes from my fading memories) but that's a good thing, as far as...
Read moreNice buildings to see from outside like a village and to visit inside also!
Nice idea that it is on an island but it makes it quite tight and quickly crowded.
There are all lot of shows during the day but the level of performance left us wanting more. Is really aimed at a very young audience in my opinion max 4-5 years old. The shows are sung in playback. Too bad. Out of 4 hours 30 in the park we only had time to see 2 shows. We mainly walk around but then the theater is far to come back on time to see more shows. We were expecting more entertainment in the park. The few activities photos with the characters, make-up etc… are all paid. There are no rides. It is more like a big playground. It is nice that there is a beach but we found it a sad that there is a loudspeaker with music. We would have liked to have a quiet break given the crowd of the day. On the other hand many well-stocked shops for those who want to bring back souvenirs but it is not cheap. Lots of choice of restaurants. There is a big effort to be made on the toilets which were all very dirty and no soap most of the time. The beach huts need renovation. I recommend to buy online ticket it is a bit cheaper. Definitely not my favorite park but if you are a very fan of Mummin maybe you...
