The train is fantastic and welll maintained and really special. Unfortunately a woman who worked in the gift shop scowled at us 3 times before I asked what was wrong and she said we weren't polite because we didn't say bonjour or au revoir when my husband left with our 2 year old. I tried to explain that isn't the culture everywhere and it's not intended to be disrespectful. She talked over me and said she wasn't a dog. She didn't want to hear anything and said that we need to learn the culture when we travel. I said sometimes we make mistakes. Not good enough. She cut it off and essentially kicked us out. I asked my French husband afterward why he didnt say goodbye and he said she was talking to other guests and he didnt want to be rude by interupting. Ironic that he was trying to be polite. She repeated several times that 15-20 times a day people come in and out and disrespect her. She really has a story about us tourists and guests of the train. It really stained an otherwise incredible experience. I don't understand with so many tourists why she would take it so personally when people from all over the world don't know the French customs and assume it's intended to disrespect her. Anyway it's a real bummer and...

I had the pleasure of visiting the Railway Bay of Somme - Crotoy Station recently, and it was a truly memorable experience. The station itself is a charming and picturesque spot that perfectly captures the essence of the French countryside.
From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the beautiful surroundings. The views of the Bay of Somme are absolutely stunning, making it a perfect backdrop for a leisurely day. The station is well maintained, reflecting its historical significance and providing a glimpse into the past.
The staff were welcoming and enthusiastic, eager to share their knowledge about the area and the history of the railway. I took a scenic train ride, which was the highlight of my visit. The journey offered breathtaking views of the bay and surrounding landscapes, making it a must-do for anyone in the area.
I also appreciated the informative panels around the station that provided insights into the local wildlife and ecology, enhancing my understanding of this beautiful region.

Read moreLovely small seaside resort. Plenty of cafes, restaurants to be found just past the port. Not particularly picturesque but pleasant views out to sea and of the Somme Bay. The train from St Valery crosses the mostly open fields, not many views of the river/bay but a pleasant and fun journey. We had a 3 year old with us so started at Noyelles as the journey is just 30 mins. It's an hour from St Valery. Beach at Le Crotey is excellent, safe and spacious. Mostly sand but but some peebles. You can get boat trips from here too. We spent just a couple of hours here but felt that was enough unless you wanted to sound the day on the beach. It's south facing so very little shade and therefore hot in summer. Overall a lovely afternoon and definitely...
