Very interesting little cathedral. Unassuming on the outside. Inside there is some beautifully intricate stucco decor, but a fair bit of it is chalked on - I wonder why? Budget cuts? Plenty of candles to light inside if you have recently lost a loved one/ are worried about your bowel movements following that dodgy sandwich you are next door. There is also a brilliant organ behind you as you walk in, so don't forget to look up and all around you.

The cathedral was closed when we were there, so that was disappointing. We also were surprised that the cathedral only takes up half of the block - it is rather small for a main draw. The front park and facade are nice, but that is all I experienced. It is hard to think of this smallish church as a main attraction in a city. I am giving them the benefit of the doubt with a 4 star rating.

La "cattedrale" è in realtà una piccola chiesa con una scalinata e facciata esterna abbastanza decadente. Ottima solo la posizione panoramica sul mare. L'interno invece è un trionfo di colori e di decorazioni, anche se non certamente un esempio di stile. La fonte battesimale di Napoleone si trova in un angolo dalla parete scrostata. In una nota a parte, dopo aver visitato la casa di Napoleone sull'Elba pensavo solo gli italiani facessero pessima manutenzione di edifici storici napoleonici, ma qui ad Ajaccio ho visto che i Corsi non fanno certo di meglio 😉

La cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption ou cathédrale Santa Maria Assunta d’Ajaccio, située dans la ville nouvelle génoise. La cathédrale est aussi dédicacée à saint Euphrase, titulaire de la première cathédrale d'Ajaccio, et à saint François-Xavier. La cathédrale est classée au titre des Monuments historiques Cathédrale baroque monumentale, édifiée à la fin du XVIème siècle Elle est dotée d'une nef à deux travées avec collatéraux.

A Catedral de Ajáccio é também conhecida como Catedral da Assunção de Nossa Senhora de Ajáccio. É uma Catedral pequena mas muito bonita. Os estilos arquitetônicos são o Maneirismo e o Barroco. O interior está precisando de alguns reparos nas paredes e nas pinturas. A igreja é do século XVI e Napoleão Bonaparte foi batizado nela.
