Le Musée Roger Quilliot est exceptionnel par son architecture moderne avec une coupole digne de celle du British Museum, en plus modeste. Ce musée propose depuis le 8 mars 2024 une excellente mais courte exposition temporaire intitulée "Neige" qui correspond aux 150 ans de l'impressionnisme en liaison avec le musée d'Orsay (photo jointe). On y trouvera bien évidemment des peintures de l'école de Murol dont les représentants les plus célèbres sont Victor Charetton et Wladimir de Terlikovski. A noter aussi une parfaite exposition actuelle d'une trentaine d'œuvres de Picasso de la suite Vollard, de Fernand Léger, de Modigliani, etc. avec une seule nullité, celle de Pierre Soulages, qui soit dit en passant a honteusement copié un artiste allemand passé inaperçu (vu dans un musée de Berlin). Je joins une photo d'un Picasso totalement inconnu. Parmi les œuvres en exposition permanente quelques chefs d'œuvres purement Auvergnats dont en sous sol deux vierges Romanes en majesté (hélas fort mal éclairées), au rez de chaussée un petit tableau de Corneille de Lyon (peintre français méconnu du XVIème dont plusieurs tableaux sont au Louvre), et dans les étages le plâtre du Vercingétorix de la statue de Bartholdi de la Place de Jaude, dont le soldat Romain couché sous le cheval est invisible sur la dite Place car son socle est bien trop haut. Je regrette également qu'une des deux "Pascalines", appartenant à la ville de Clermont-Ferrand et auparavant au Musée du Ranquet (fermé) ne figure pas dans le musée Quilliot, les deux sont au Museum d'Histoire Naturelle de Clermont-Ferrand, ce qui est particulièrement stupide. La "Pascaline" qui doit son nom à Blaise Pascal, un Clermontois, fût le premier calculateur moderne, à tel point qu'un troisième exemplaire figure...

В распоряжении музея также находятся помещения для временных экспозиций, где устраиваются специализированные выставки и демонстрируются работы современных мастеров...Средневековая эпоха (начиная с XII века) представлена в залах первого этажа музея. В этой коллекции можно отметить капители древнеримских церквей региона Оверни и примечательные скульптуры Девы Марии. Также на первом этаже размещена коллекция эпохи Возрождения, в которой представлены картины (Страсти Христовы кисти Корнелиса Энгебрехтса), предметы обстановки и скульптуры.

На втором этаже представлены полотна и предметы искусства XVII и XVIII веков, имеющие региональную специфику (пейзажи, фаянс мастеров Клермон-Феррана), а также картины известных французских художников (Портрет Венсана Вуатюра кисти Филиппа де Шампаня, Marine работы Клода Жозефа Верне и другие), североевропейских мастеров (Зубодёр кисти Теодора Ромбоутса) и итальянских художников (Соломон и царица Савская и Соломон восхваляет идолов работы Донато Крети, Святая Агата работы Джулио Чезаре Прокаччини и другие).

На третьем этаже музея находятся залы с коллекцией XIX века, где представлены работы, иллюстрирующие региональную историю Оверни (Эскиз в гипсе Конной статуи Верцингеторига работы Бартольди, Оборона Галлии Теодора Шассерио), а также другие работы, среди которых стоит упомянуть Борьба за существование Анри Кросса, Бюст девушки работы Камиллы Клодель, полотно Бродячие акробаты Гюстава Доре...
