A well respected family winery specializing in the sparkling wines of Limoux (Cremant de Limoux and Blanquette de Limoux). We had booked via a 3rd party website but it would have been better if we had just booked directly with Maison Guinot. The tour was just the two of us. Our guide was Eleanor (apologies if the spelling is not exact). While her English was challenging, she more than made up for it in effort and passion for the wines. In the end we did not miss anything as we came already well versed in how sparkling wines are made in France. The best part is the final stage of tasting the many wines and styles of Maison Guinot. I was pleasantly surprised to be able to taste so many of their different wines, from Cremant to Blanquette, to rose and even an Ancestral special creation. We ended up buying a few cases given we came with the car and could bring them back home. I would recommend a visit if you are in the area (30 min from the famous fortified town of Carcassone). Limoux is one of those overlooked areas that has a lot of beauty and good...
Read more€5 per person gets you a fantastic tour and tasting experience at this small wine producer in Limoux. They are one of the few producers left that make the famous sparking wine using the traditional methods, choosing to do everything by hand rather than use machinery. The tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, and even though we were on a French tour she took time to explain each key point to us in English. The tour ended with a tasting session of some of their wines, and they were truly amazing. The sparkling wine made in this area actually predates champagne, and it’s said that Dom Perignon stole the production methods when he toured the area and took them back to the...
Read moreWe had a wonderful tour of Maison Guinot and learnt a great deal about how their different wines were produced, the history of Blanquette, and plans to become a Bio wine producer in the future. The tour included visiting the tunnels and caves where the wines were stored and matured, and we were allowed hands-on turning of bottles just like they would do to bring the lees down to the cap for disposal. Finally back in reception we were provided a dégustation of the different sparkling wines that Maison Guinot produced. Our lady guide spoke very good English. A very enjoyable tour. Would...
