During the 19th century, the central part of the Bois de Vincennes was cleared to create a military training ground with barracks, maneuvering range and shooting hills. In 1860, Napoleon III ceded the wood to the city of Paris so that it could be transformed into a symmetrical park of the Bois de Boulogne.
The west of the woods, its north-eastern part around Lac des Minimes and its southern edge around Avenue de Gravelle are developed into a public park but the center remains a military zone until its gradual evacuation by the army in during the 1950s and 1960s.
At the end of the 1960s and on the occasion of the Third International Floralies, a site was sought in the woods by the City of Paris to host the event. The design and construction of the Park are entrusted to landscape architect Daniel Collin.
The chosen site — the former disused military grounds of La Cartoucherie and de la Pyramide — is completely remodeled. Only the existing pine forest and its Corsican pines are preserved.
The Floral Park will be inaugurated in 1969. With its 35 hectares, it will be the largest green space created in Paris since the end of the Second Empire. Fifteen months of work were necessary before carrying out the...
Read moreVery terrible and rude attitude against children!
We have visited this place with our 3 weeks old baby, on the main door writing that the place close at 20:00, at 19:30 comes a very rude man to us and started to scream by French to us direct people out side the place, I have asked the man if he speaks English.
He said in a very loud and rude attitude “you just go outside the place, time is over”
I have asked the man nicely if he give us 5 minutes to feed our baby as he was crying in this moment.
The man ignored what I say and keep screaming to us, go out now or I call the police!
The man did followed us to the man entrance and keeps shouting by French until we meet another employee at the entrance, I have asked her if she can stop the man shouting to us and allow my wife to feed the baby as the time was not 20:00 already, she ignored the conversation and made her self doesn’t understand English.
We left the place with terrible memories and of course will never come back or recommend to visit this place ( it’s very rude and aggressive staff working there without any management responsibility for...
Read moreParc Floral de Paris in the Bois de Vincennes is one of the best places in the city to take children. The park combines beautiful green surroundings with some of the most varied playgrounds in Paris.
The playgrounds themselves are excellent: from traditional swings, slides, and tunnels for the younger ones, to impressive climbing structures and even a six-meter slide for older kids. There’s also a mini-golf course with holes inspired by Paris landmarks, pedal cars (“Rosalies”), and plenty of space to run around.
What makes the park stand out is the mix: children can play safely while parents enjoy the gardens, lakes, and botanical displays. In summer, concerts and family events add even more life to the visit. There are cafés, picnic areas, and good facilities, making it easy to spend a half or full day here.
A couple of notes: the larger play structures are best for older children, and the park can get crowded on weekends...
